4 speed ? I do not have anything B&M, but my question is, what kind of tranny and why did you go to a 4 speed? Or is it one of those automatic, manual shifters. (I dont know much)

Jesus'sFB, it's an automatic trans, the B&M Megashifter is a ratchet shifter (can't miss a gear) for it. See info here: http://www.bmracing.com/products/shf...gashifter.html And yes, it Will fit an 88-92 Formula. By "fit" they mean it won't bolt in- the console cap has to be cut. I had to cut my console top. Instead of 88-92 Formula, it should say "85-92 Firebirds".
Thanks for the tip on the brake cleaner, HS! I already found out about using Armor-all on the boot... I replaced the boot and never brought Armor-all anywhere NEAR it this time
Oh and service parts listing is here: http://www.bmracing.com/products/shf...s/svc_Pts.html Put a "BMM-" in front of those if you order from Summit Racing. But they don't really show a 4-speed indicator plate, just "indictator", so you might have to shoot B&M an email? I might do it and buy a spare... mine's been on there since '97!

Anyone happen to have the indicator housing laying around? I got a used Megashifter but the housing/light/indicator cable is missing.

I have the whole top plate with light, cable, indicator and the plate. It won't work with the 4th gen console so we don't need it.

Do they make a 3-spd version of that indicator? I have a TH350 trans and a console B&M Megashifter. I have the trim plate and the bezel with the light in it, but I don't have the clear plastic shift indicator with the PRND2L on it. I tried ordering one from B&M a long time ago and what they sent me was another black metal console trim plate...
I think console Megashifters were available in early 3rd gens before the overdrive came out, but I'm not positive.

The armor-all will totally destroy the rubber boot... mine had a million cracks in it after a week. Finally the top started to split (where it goes against the stick, right below the handle) so I ordered a new one. I think it was $20? That was more than a few years ago, and the boot still looks new. I just wipe it down with a wet rag now.

If I were to only do one other mod to my Trans Am other than s.f.c. it would be the Megashifter. I have one and I love it!!! it is one sweet shifter. I really can't say enough about it other than it is a must for a mod !!

i really do love my b&m. its on a th350 right now and it can be fun to shift whenever you feel like it (actually do it out of habit now). had a few problems with the install (got sent a couple wrong sized nuts and bolts), but after it was all said and done, i deffinately think its money well spent. just dont ever let a mechanic near your tranny if you want to get home. i got screwed over by a mechanic (was at school without tools) and one of the many ways they screwed up my car was removing the cable and messing up its calibration. after about 20 min of adjusting, i was back to normal.

My cable took about 2 mins of adjusting, it was just a PITA to get that crazy long shifter cable looped around right

I have a question for you guys about installing your megashifter. I bought one for my 91 Z28, and on the instructions it says to remove a pin or something, to get the original **** off - the only pin i could find was one behind the **** itself(facing the radio/heater controls etc) and it looked like a horse shoe pin, is that the so called pin i need to remove??
thanks
thanks

My megashifter shifts hard and I dont know why. Sent the first one back and they got mad at me and said there was nothing wrong with it. Yet, everything was installed correctly. No kink in the cable etc. Then the top thread is all stripped so now I have to buy a new stick and ****. I have only used the shifter to shift manually maybe 3 times(other than park, drive and reverse). It has 3k miles on it but is over a year old cuz I drive it so little. I only got it to keep the interior looking original as possible. Now I wish I had a different shifter.

When I got mine it didn't have much for lube. Also it was a kinda tight fit. However with a little care, and passing on the notion (Direct Bolt On) I grabbed a drill, and a dremel. And went to work. Now it fits flush, shifts nice and tight, not hard, tight. I love the way this shifter is designed. The handle is aluminum, so if u strip the threads, ur stuck.. Kinda simple as that. For ease of use, its crazy easy to use, I'm 18, and the Megashifter was the first thing I did to her after the engine stuff was done. (Engine, Tranny, driveshaft, rear end, convert front to disc to match rear) After she was back and running, I went out and got the B&M. I love it soooo much. And it really fits the look of our cars

the biggest problem people have with the shifter is that they strip off the top threads (that the handle sits on)
when i got mine, i bought a Hammer Shifter handle and i rethreaded teh shifter used a tun of Locktite and put it on... ive had no problems with that....
When you install the shifter you must wrap the cable over the trans EXACTLY as they indicate or it will be extremely hard to shift. its tricky to manuvar but its no biggie...
the next hardest part to do is wire up the lil switches....

Car: too many ...
My solution to fix the hard shifting was to slam the shifter up and down repeatedly without any cables attached (so it moved freely). After abusing it for a while (on and off for a cpl hours?), and then hooking it back up, it shifted much easier. I went with the caveman approach, and it seemed to work out pretty good!

Anyone have the installation instructions scanned or a how to guide on the web somewhere? I picked up a B&M Mega shifter for free and the instructions are missing. I don't know what they need for wiring to the switches and the cable routing issues.
After a nice clean up, it works really well while bolted to the work bench. Going to go for the installation maybe this weekend.
Just FYI, it's not the console version, but I do have the shift indicator for it. It will end up being some sort of custom job to make it fit I'm sure, but I need something to start with for instructions...
EDIT Nevermind. I found the PDF instructions on B&M's web site.

I stripped mine cuz I didnt follow the instructions. I should have used the locktite and I didnt. I also looped the cable correctly. Everything is as it should be. I have called them several times for help but they tell me I did it right...still shifts hard. I have to yank it out of park. I tried rethreading the stick. Didnt work. To replace the handle and stick will cost somewhere around 65 bucks as I am beyond the warranty.

check e-bay....
i paid 35 for my hammer shifter handle and 2 bucks for a new Die... took me 10 minutes to rethread it for the Hamer Shifter shank, and then 20 hours for the licktite to set...
when i initially got the shifter (bought it from a friend) he had the handle stripped...
i sold the stripped handle on e-bay for 16 bucks
