Relocating HVAC controls

I have everything figured out except the insulated cable that controls the cold->heat.. I have found similar cables on ebay, really I just need to extend my current one.. anyone know if extending it will even work? I have done several searches and "heard of" people moving these inside the center console (which is what I want to do) but can't find anything substantial.

you mean the cable that moves the flap for hot/ cold. If so I would take to a parts store and look it for a say 1500 or something GM that you think the cable would be longer in, compare them. Im sure you will match it up to one that is longer GM likes to use the same design on stuff. You may want to check a bike shop also if they have a solid core brake cable that is un cut you chould be able to make it work for the heater. Also look in hotroder magaizines Im sure someone sells a cut to fit item with all that is custom out there.

Post a pic of your progress.

Any cable the right diameter will work. The only hard part will be connecting it at each end and getting it to stay for an extended amount of time.

You may be able to get a manual choke cable or throttle cable to work. I would think a longer cable would work better then trying to extend your current one. How long do you need it to be?

The hot/cold cable from a late 80's/early 90's S-10 is rougly 3' (about 1-1.5' longer than a f-body cable). I'd go into detail of how I know but, that's just boring details. You could also just got to a bike shop and get a cut to fit brake cable.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to ck on that stuff next weekend..

as far as why I want to do it - I have an Alpine graphic eq that I want to put where the hvac is. I realize mounting the eq face somewhere else would be way easier but it will not achieve the look of uniformity I want. I do not want to just eliminate the heater alltogether either since generally I drive it from april-october and it gets frickn cold at night sometimes. I don't have any pics yet, I have a long way to go before Im REinstalling anything.. The whole interior including carpet is coming out for completion of sound deadening, then complete rewire/modify stereo system, THEN reinstall interior, console, etc. As soon as I make real progress I will start taking pics..
