91-92 Z Gfx

I just one an ebay auction for a set of 91-92 Z28 sideskirts. They don't have the hardware with them. Are they hard to install with 85-90 gfx hardware?

Also, what's the going rate on a set of 85-90 sideskirts in nice condition?

I am swapping to the 91-92 style on my IROC. I haven't put them on yet, but it looks like you will need to drill some holes, but it shouldn't be a big deal.

Kewl. It'll probably be about 6 months or so before I'm ready for paint, but it'll be nice having the new stlye gfx on it.

Did you just get the rocker panels or did you get the door filler pieces as well? Do you plan on getting the 91-92 front valance and rear bumper to go with them?

I got both the rocker and door pieces, as well as the two rear pieces that go behind the rear wheel.

I'm working on the bumper. Ultimately I want to get the front valance as well.

Did I get a good deal?

All I need now is the stupid front GFX.

Have fun, ive been looking for a replacement from ground effect for my 91RS and I think its going to be cheaper to pay a body shop to fix mine, over $100 for most ive seen just for the front.

Oh what I'd pay to get my hands on a full set of 91-92 gfx for the IROC. They are virtually non-existant over here!

The 91-92 GFX have different backing plates than the older GFX. So if the sideskirts didnt come with the hardware (aka brackets?) you might need to make your own. When I put the 91-92 GFX on my 89, I had to drill two holes on each side. The older GFX mount through the area where the side emblems are (RS or IROC). But the newer ones mount further forward and holes need to be drilled. I also had to cut away part of the body (small part) towards the rear of the lower sideskirts. I could not get the sideskirts to fit flush without cutting away part of the metal in that area (rear portion of the sideskirts). I did not do the 1/4 panel GFX yet, but I'm pretty sure you need to drill holes there as well. The front clip and bumper bolted right on with no modifications needed.

There is nothing different about the front bumper cover, but the rear one is different. It mounts right up just like the other one, but it is different in appearance.

I have not put mine on yet, but I held up the side skirts just to see what I'm gonna have to do. Just from a quick look, I can see that holes will have to be drilled behind the emblem and probably one on the rear part by the tire. I'm sure since CrazyHawaiian has done it he knows what he's talking about.

When I installed the lower sideskirts, i had to remove part of the front fenderwells to get access to the front bolts for the backing plates (brackets). Its possible to reach them through the bottom of the door (under the door hinges) if its all the way open but its a tight fit. To do the rears, I removed the rear interior plastics (the rear armrest piece). Bracket needs to be mounted down low (through the hole). When you remove the earlier lower GFX sideskirts you will see that there is a sharp metal ledge under where the sill plate would meet the GFX. I used a saw to cut about 1/2 inch off the ledge at an angle near the rear wheels. The front part of the lower GFX mounted fine, but the rear would not fit flush because the insides of the lower sideskirt were bumping up against this metal ledge. Along with the brackets are about 6 to 7 tabs that should be attached to the underside of the car (for the lower sideskirts). My car didnt have all the right holes, but 3 or 4 lined up so thats all I used. Still very solid. To do the upper sideskirts, remove the door panels and the bolts are along the bottom of the door. Front end and rear bumper bolted up using the existing hardware. Only thing I didnt do yet is the rear 1/4 panel GFX. Maybe in three weeks since I'm painting my 89 IROC this weekend and racing next weekend.
