To tell you the truth, I thought about trying to keep the stock cable and after I added up all the cutting and bolting and adjusting I'd have to do, I installed the supplied cable in 10 mins.

you pull 2 bolts on the pan, bolt in the cable bracket. Unbolt the factory shift arm, bolt the supplied arm back on. Then put the shift arm in park and the shifter in park. Adjust cable. Then make sure it hits every gear (did the first time for me)

Not all that bad... I agree, it was the easiest part of the swap.

did you buy and hook-up the relay that is needed from Radioshack 86WS6_T/A?

I'm not sure that I'm going to change my cable....I know you guys say it's really easy to do....but..like I've said before...I'm no mechanic at all....sure..I can do little things...but to me..this isn't a little thing. If I told you guys to shave an antenna....not having any body repair/customizing backround...and I said it was simple...would you do it? I really don't have many tools..and not much experience with any kind of transmission work. Now....if I just have to either modify, build, or use an exsisting bracket, that works fine and that dosen't have any problems...I'd rather go that way...instead of screwing my brand new transmission that I paid almost 2 grand for. Not trying to be a d*ck...but I just don't think I'm ready to change the cable, route the cable, and to adjust the cable successfully. When I do this and if I decide not to cut or make a bracket to use my exsisting cable...I'll probably just have to pay someone to hook up the shifter...but I could do the rest (modify the top plate stuff like that)

not sure where camp crystal lake is at.....but i'm sure someone off the chi-town/ Indiana board could show you how to hook up that cable....i know if you shaved my antenna and put in some vents in my fenders i "might" be presuaded to drop in a megashifter cable. how's that sound?

but seriously, if you need something just ask.

Anyhow, I know you guys are here to help and all...I'd just hate to have my car down for along time, waiting for someone to come along and help out.

The cable is pretty easy to change if you go that route. I didn't change mine because the cable and bracket weren't included when I got the shifter second hand. Would have had to spend a good deal of money on a new cable and bracket.

Yeah, I bought and and wasted like 8 bucks. Seriously dude, go back and read how much work you have just added to your otherwise easy as HELL install. I am no mechanice either, I am only 17 to be honest, and it works perfectly; even though I too thought this was no "little thing" as far as installs go. Yes, it took me 3 days to get it hooked up, but that's what you get for being too excited and not reading the directions thoroughly. The only problem I have had was the stupid clear plastic piece on the gear indicator rattling. That's it. So do yourself a favor and use the stock cable, it's really a cinch and takes about 15 minutes of your time to adjust. You'll be more than pleased with the results though.

Just use the new cable man, I swear it is easier than whatever the hell you are trying to do.

OK, to remove the old cable, crawl under your car, there are less than 5 bolts, then the cable just pulls on outta there.

The new bracket for the cable attached where the old one did. So not much thought there.

The shifter lever is only 1 nut, or 2 nuts on the one bolt, take that off, add the new one, put old nuts back on. You can see how easy it is to put the cable onto the shifter.

I mean just by lookin at that one pic:

You can see how to do it. The "adjusting" part takes 2 minutes. Literally. you put it in first, move the shifter around a bit, then go under ur car, disengage the cable, move the shift lever by hand to neutral, then move the shifter to nuetral, if they lign up. THERE YOU GO.

Its easier, less work, just to use the new cable.

Did I mention im 19, (18 when I installed that) and this is my first ever car I've done any work to. ???

Just use the new cable man, your talking about drilling and adapting all these new things, just cause you dont wanna pull out 3 NUTS!! 3 NUTS. you see in the pic ^^^^^^

3 man, 3 nuts. You can do it.

EDIT: Oops sorry man, Its 1 NUT and 2 BOLTS. come on man, you dont have to pull ur tranny apart or anything, those pics i took where from under the drivers door.

And you make it sound soooo easy...you didn't mention drilling new holes, routing the cable...all the adjustments that are needed....
I can paint, fix dents, and weld on steel all day long....but when it comes to stuff like this....I'm really not even going to attempt to do. If it's just to cut and add a different bracket....whooopie...no adjustments, no runnning new cables or anything.

ok well for the hidden stuff, there are two holes that u need to drill, just to make the longer bracket of the shifter fit, just grab ANY drill, its kinda thin metal, so.. not much work.

Routing the cable is just a loop, its a PITA, but nothing that takes over 5 minutes. To adjust, literally takes 2-10 minutes. Its nothing man.

But anywho, if your 100% set on using the factory cable. Its just making the old cable fit. So what your diagrams say, thats about right. you just kinda have to massage the cable into the bracket, but you can just bend it a tad to make it lign up a little better.

Thanks for the response Daishi...I just think I'd be better at using my factory bracket, to make one, or to bend the exsisting B&M bracket. As long as it's aligned properly...I would think it would function right....I just wanted to see if anyone else agreed....
