89 dash in 91 camaro

Is it possible to put a 89 dash in a 91 camaro? I am wanting to use aftermarket gauges and not make the dash look hacked up. I don't have access to a machine shop, so I doubt cutting a panel to fit would look factory. I know of several aftermarket dash setups for the 82-89 dash.

Fitment wise it will fit with no problems. You will have to add/cut wires to move the switches at the most. You said you would use aftermarket gagues, I take it you are running a carb w/o the computer or you still running a fuel injected setup. I beleive atleast on the birds they will swap out completly just the wiring from the 89 which wll plug into the 91.

But since you have aftermarket gagues you should be fine.

Thanks,

Its going to be a carb setup. There is no computer and I am not going to be using the factory wiring for the dash. I heard somewhere in this forum that you have to weld on brackets to use a pre 90 dash, didn't sound right to me.

Ah, gotta love when people say things will bolt up and they havent done it, sorry your mounts that hold the dash in with 4 10 MM screws going down from the top and up from the bottom are different than the ones on the early cars which have a 13 mm nut at each end on a stud going front to back, and the 10s on the bottom going up, you can remove the mounts altogether and have the dash loose and only held in by the 6 7mm screws along the top and possibly hack something for the bottom, or install a set of the mounts from an 82-89 car, the mounts are held in with spot welds, take a dash out and you'll see.

Sorry, I was going on the question of if you would have to cut the dash, and if it would fit the mounts are different, but the brackets will not be a problem to get welded in, just strip it down and run it to a muffler shop they will usually weld stuff for you, or atleast they do for me.

Not going through all that, thanks for the info though. I will just get a 145mph cluster somewhere and put the indiglo overlay in it.

A panel to fit autometers in to fit the stock 90-92 dash isnt that hard with some common tools...
