For those who have been towed...
Yes, I know it is embarassing, but I have to know this:
My uncle was over one day when I first bought the 'bird and he gave me some strange advise: "If you ever have to be towed with this car, you will either open the hatch or have to replace it when the trip is done." Is this true, and do SFC's make that much of a difference in this case?

Not true. However I will say this the only time I allowed her to be towed not on a flatbed was when I threw the A/C belt(cut through the radiator hose) in Oakland at about midnight. There was no way I was leaving her there. I had her towed into the Orinda BART station (safer area). The hatch was fine though. You should not have a problem.

Mines been towed 3 times, no problems at all, here is the 3rd time it was towed, had to tow it since open headers with no y-pipe was too loud.

I use the drag car trailer when i need/want a tow, which doesn't happen much, but I had a starter go out once, and right after I bought the car I had a wheel bearing go bad and I didn't want to mess up the spindle, that was the only time I had to use a wrecker, but it was a roll back. Rule of tumb is to only use roll backs.

ummm nope
well i have towed many cars in my side job while in school. and i have sling towed camaros, not the prefered method but if ya know how to rig it nothing gets damaged, i have wheel lifted many and flat beded a ton. never ever seen or heard of any problems. i actully prefered the wheel lift, the cars sit so low that there is a slight chance of damaging the nose when loading on a flat bed truck. boards must be used on most cars to get clearance.
so i would say don't worry if you need to be towed.

Had mine towed once when the starter went (right after I got it, no less). They lifted the rear wheels. I was worried as hell, but no problems. I got SFCs not too long after, which doesn't really matter much in this case, but get them anyway. They really do help a lot.

OK those were the nice stories, I learned the hard way. My fuel pump went out and had to get towed. Got a flat bed out and my rear of the car was face towards the front of the truck. About 3 miles later my rear louvers flew off the car
they decide to get airborn then land on the road. Got pulled off to the side of the road only to watch a full size dump truck drive over the metal louvers. I say your fine if you do not have louvers on a car while pointed towards the front of a truck. Just had to say the store....and I got money from the tow company to replace the louvers.

That is so not funny. I am not laughing (much!). My mom's car has one of those wheelchair carriers on the top of it (was grandma's car before she died) and we were going down NYS I-490 on the way home. Just before Churchville, the fiberglass over the opening portion of the carrier decided to destroy all of its rivets and fly off. Luckily, it landed at the side of the road at a point where one can turn off and rest or wait when stuck in snow, so nothing ran it over.
