screwed up odometer
I guess since i've rolled the odo over for the 5th time I'm going to have problems with it now. The other day I was driving home from somewhere. I heard a click noise from my instrument cluster. Low and behold it was my odo rolling over from 5999 to 26000. The gears hung up or something and rolled over an extra set of numbers. My trip did this some time ago where it would try to roll over the first mile but would roll over like 20 miles or somehting. I'm really trying to keep track of the miles on this thing since I'd like to mail Chevy about it since its still the original motor with the only things being done to it are maintenace ac, water pump, alternators, t-stats. Still running down the road no smoke (except the usual chevy seals start) no noise no leaking or burning oil. Is there a way to grease the gears and reset the odo to where it should be its still clocking correct just added 20,000 to the actual miles haha. Do I have to get a new one from the wrecking yard? If I get a new one from the wrecking yard can it be turned back/forward to where my actual miles are? Also if I have to get a wrecking yard one can it go faster then 85 with out changing any tihng?
I tried to reset an odo a year or so ago and found out that they are made to prevent tampering. I am sure some people know how to reset them, but the only way I know is to go to GM. THey will put a sticker on your car stating the mileage on the car, then give you a fresh odometer. Might cost a bit though. Best thing you can do is take one out of a car with mileage similar to what you have in your car.

Not sure how to fix it, but Bandit seems to have the right suggestion....BUUUUT did you actually roll that odometer over FIVE times???? That is incredible... :- o The odometer in my 89 has rolled twice, but 5 times is amazing!!! Ok, well keep it going and hopefully you'll get that odometer fixed so ya don't hit 6 times to quick...

I've seen them on ebay where the guy would sell you the gauge cluster and he'd put it to the right numbers.... so there's gotta be a way. Or maybe you could just find the same guy again
