A Problem with T-tops
My 92' GTA has the lexan t-tops and the paint or the tint on the outside has started to come off.. It started with a 1 inch section and then 2 inch over time it keeps growing right now about half the t-top tint or paint has come offand it is always been erfectly straight lines from front to back. Anyone know why this is happening?
Is there anything to fix it cause its looking like.....well you know.

It looks the same, just use the really dark stuff, like the Limo 15% or lower.

I have the same problem with my 91. The best way to do this is sand it down with 1000 grit sand paper and then you are giong to have to buff out the scratches. I am using buffing compounds to do this. If you find it too bright in the car you might want to buy t-top shades. Then use car wax to keep it new. My 2 cents.

mine are tinted on the inside on my '90, and they look great, aside from the scratches they've accumulated... I'm thinking of having them redone.

1gta2c, has got the answer- only that I used 1500 grit sand paper on my brothers 91 Lexan tops.
When it is sanded to the point where none of the delamination is visiable, I used a power buffer, the same one used for buffing paint jobs, and a very mild compound, until the tops looked as good or better that new.
That is, until one blew off and broke in two

can someone explain the difference between the lexan tops and... NOT lexan tops?
mine appear to have a film on the inside of the t-tops... you normall cannot see the edge of the tint unless you take them off

ScrapMaker,
Only difference I know between the two types of tops is that Lexan is lighter and a bit less, well, scratch-resistant. I can't imagine any of them are tinted on the outside!? All auto windows in my experience are tinted on the inside--it seems to make sense.
I have glass tops which ALSO have some scratches in the tint like yours. They're very small, and I can't see removing all the tint and re-tinting. It's been awhile since you posted about re-doing yours. Did you by chance find some kind of touch-up that would hide the scratches without a complete overhaul?
Or maybe you've had them done already. If so, was it very expensive?

well I guess I have glass... since they are so damned heavy, and no I haven't had them redone... I would not bother "touching up" tint, because it would probably look like crap in my opinion. You can get a quality tint job for your entire car for $99.... I bet I can get my t-tops done for like 30-50 bucks.
