My 83 TA has the usual drivers side door droop...replace hinge, door or is there another method

 

just take it to a shop, let them fix it, its just the bushings, shouldnt be more then 100 150...i work at a shop, so i know...if they try for more, scream rape.

 

Yes there is a better and easier way than replacing the entire hinge. I sell the upper door hinge repair kits made by 3rdGenSolutions in both non-greasable and greasable versions. One kit repairs one door. The kit requires roughly half the labor that the GM method of drilling out the spotwends and bolting a new hinges in place requires. For GM's version you have to completely un-wire the door electrical (pdl's & pw's) to set the door on the ground. Using the kit I sell you just have to support the door in place (a cherry-picker and a strap works great for this), remove the inner door panel, grind off the heads of the two upper hinge pins and drive them out, then remove the lower hinge spring and pin. Once you have the old parts out you need to Drive out the old worn bushings and insert new ones, then install the new upper hinge pins and lower hinge pin and spring. The job will take roughly 3-4 hours but it is a lot better solution and better materials used for the new hinge pin than the OEM one. I also sell some tools such as the GM door spring removal tool that make the job go a lot easier.

AKA, changing the pins and bushings. Which is what the second guy said anyway. Nice sales pitch lonsal.

 

Actually if by "take it to a shop" he was referring to a dealership, they would have replaced the hinges.
