Does weather stripping shrink with age?

The weather stripping along the edge of my driver's side door window is not making a good seal with the glass. The weather stripping is dried out and cracking. In such condition, is it possible that the weather stripping has shrank away from the glass?

It doesn't shrink, so much as it becomes brittle and looses its flexability. Thats why they leak. There is no sure fire cure. Just replace it.

hey hows it going if your weatherstrip is wearing you can us baby oil to soften it up is seems to work good dont use alot becuse it is really greesy and hard to clean up, it will also attract dust a little too. i use it on a regular basis to keep it looking good and if it is hardening up you can get emulsifyer stuff from your gm dealer for weatherstripping works good to.. you can also try some silicone spray. but dont get any on the paint of your car it is bad for paint

good luck

nah the weatherstripping is completely wasted, no use in treating it. I'm going to have to replace it, unfortunately. Thanks for the tips though.
