I want to change the color of my gauge cluster needles in my 91 Z28...

I just ordered a set of the Macewen White Face Gauge Overlays for my 91 Z28...I also ordered "4 in 1" white LED's. I've done a search and a couple people said that I can change the color of my needles without having to remove them...by just sanding the back side of the needles and then applying paint to the back side of the needles. I would like to have them look like the 92 needles.."orange". If I do this....won't the paint have to be tranparent so the light can show through??? I don't think the factory yellow needles would look very good with these new gauges. Thanks fella's

My 92 has yellow needles. I've never seen one that did have orange.

Then its probably not an original 92 cluster, they were orange and not yellow like 90-91

exactly......that's one little detail to tell if it's a true 92 or not...by the gauge needles....they were orange...

Been a while since I had my guages apart, so I don't remember, and I didn't pay much attention, lol. But, are the needles clear all over and painted on the bottom, or one solid color but clear in the middle?

If they are the first option, I'd say, carefully scrape the paint from the bottom and then hit them with a good fluorescent orange paint. Then, the light will go through the needle like fiber optics and glow orange.

Everything on my car is original, maybe it's just faded, now that I look a little closer one looks a slightly more orange than the other, but i'de say closer to yellow than orange. Oh well, I'm getting a new one anyways to fix the broken trip odometer.
