Can I fix my Trip Odometer?

The highest it can count is .9 mi. So that gets a little annoying. Is there any way to fix it? Also, there is a ticking noise that I can hear some mornings that seems like it might be related.

I also have a problem with my trip odometer. I reset it and a few moments later, I have gone something like 450 miles and then it stops turning at all.

IROCZDAVE sells repaired units, I dunno what he does, but he sells the speedo by itself, and hes several of em with varying mileage readings. Might be worth it if its really something that you wanna replace. I think I will just go looking for a low miles cluster and swap it out. Mine is the same way, and it pops like every couple seconds on the freeway, at night its damn annoying

I dont have an extra speedo anymore to take pics of,But there not a whole lot to it.The trip Odometer is a seperate peice from the rest of the speedo. There are 2 plastic tabs(part of the speedo housing) that retain the trip Od in place. One of them might have broken off.best thing to do is remove it to see whats wrong or maybe get a replacement from the junkyard(or for parts).

I had that happen to my Z way back when; I 'repaired' it by wrapping a piece of single-strand wire (22 gauge or so) around the 'axle' and then tying it to something on the back of the speedo head to hold it in place. I prolly got another 100k miles out of it with no problems, and it would likely still be going, if the car still was.

Spent a half day fixing mine as described above. Used a piece of small wire and just tied up the axle. Works fine and resets ok too. Real shabby deal with the skinny little tangs holding all this together. Hard to describe, have to take it apart and see it.
