replaceing 85mph speedo with 145?
how can you legaly change the speedometer to a 145mph one? i live in VA and i think its illegal to change the speedometer but i hear of a lot of people doing it. is there any way to do it legaly?
um , tou have to get the speedo and have someplace change it, or you can get a drill and spin the thing with a drill , go buy a cheap drill and let it go for days , and if it burns out then get a new one.

In PA, if you change you change your speedo (and effect the ODO), then you have to have a shop do it and have some kinda certificate saying it was done professionally. Otherwise, you have to purchase a reconstructed title.
Call some shops and get the details on it. After you know that much, call around and get a quote.

thanks, i'l try to find out how much it would cost. i just hate looking at an 85mph one with a needle on each side, it's ulgy. does anyone know why they even put a speedo like that in a Z28? i mean, its a sports car for crying out loud, my dad's 86 toyota 4cly pickup has a 110mph speedo.
I have an idea...
How the dealership will do it is replace your existing odometer with a fresh one, and put a sticker on your car that states the old mileage before new odometer. It is very hard to change the mileage on an odometer, I have seen it tried and it ****ed it up. Well, what you can do is buy the new cluster, and when you get it, just swap out the odometers. Then you will have your real mileage with no need for any special crap or paying large amounts of money for professional service. Then you can put the other odometer in your old cluster and sell that on e-bay... though you won't get your money back, you can at least get osme change.
