T-top weatherstripping installed

Took out old rusty t-bar and replaced it and the weatherstripping with new. Also rust treated and repainted the metal weatherstripping lips. Here are some pics before, in the process, and after.

Man, great pics! Now I know what i'll be up against when I redo my seals.

Did you buy a GM kit or aftermarket?

That's the GM kit.

Awesome work and the final pics look great, especially with the nice looking headliner. What did you use to paint?

I've got my headliner out and new seals waiting... I can't wait!

The trick now is not to wash your car or roll down the windows for a week after they are put on. it allows the glue to cure.

The work was for the t-top bar starting to rust, he just happened to rip his weatherstripping in the process.

Did your weather strip package include the strip that goes between the outside of the window and the t-top? Like the lipish part that covers the very top of the glass.

My passenger peice got ruined when someone busted into the car. And I purchased what I thought was the right piece from the dealership for 56! ( ) and it turned out to be the piece that goes inbetween the inside of the window and t-top. They won't lemme return it either So now I have a never-installed seal that I don't need, lol.

Anyways... I was just wondering if you got that piece in your kit or not. When I called back the dealership, they told me that they no long make that part So I was just wondering if that was true or misinformation.

Thanks for the compliments...well worth doing all the work in the end.

And to answer the questions...

I bought the GM kit.

The kit includes the t-top weatherstripping, and also the 2 pieces that go on each top themself (the rubber piece that sits against the window, and the plastic piece that hangs over the window - pic below - marked in green - OR in PIC 7 above, the pieces with red adhesive strips on them)

All in all I think it turned out awewome, and should leave my tops leak proof and rust proof for many years to come.

That Looks Great! Great job done.

I got my car in the body shop (http://la.rsson.com/bodyshop2/) being repainted and need to install my new GM weatherstripping next week when I get it back. My center bar was rusted really bad so I got a good replacement that I'm having powder coated and will pick up later today.

Anyway, for the weatherstripping how much of the "glue" did you use front and rear when you installed it, I noticed on my car there where enough to kind of seal and nearly come up on the painted surfaces above the windscreen and the same towards the hatch if you think the visible areas when you have the t-tops in place looking from the outside. Should I just squeeze enouhg in there so when I install the weatherstripping it kind of squeeze out on the paint slightly and then I just clean that up?

Also how much sealer did you put underneath the t-top center bar? And in what places, just back and front ?

Any help appreciated.

regards

Jan

Well what do you know! I went to a different Pontiac dealership (a little out of my way) and took my t-top with me and got the part I needed! Might take 5 days to get, but at least after that I won't have water leaking in the passenger side anymore! YAAY!

Feel like coming to Des Moines in a week or two to do another set? I just got mine in the mail yesterday and will be putting them on after I finish the new upolstry, headliner, and then get the carpet and plastic dyed to black.

I've also got to finish building my 305 LT1, finish touching up my paint after fixing a few small dents, and reapplying all of the decals. Dang, I'd better get to work if I want to be done by the Midwest Gathering on June 12th!!!

jlarson - For the weatherstrippin, I used a healthy bead of 3M weatherstripping adhesive underneath it, and also any other place I thought would need it, such as corners and ends. For the bar, I used a lot of the adhesive stuff in the front and back, and then some good beads down the sides (on the raised portions - yull know what I mean when you have it apart).

F-Body Fanatic - Glad you found it!

Brad - You better be done by 6/12! If you need any help with the weatherstripping let me know, it's pretty straight forward, but I'd be happy to help.

I'll be at the meet one way or the other. The only "if" still up in the air is whether or not the LT1 305 will be done yet or not. I've only got one main part left to buy (the cam) and will be starting the head port work in two weeks (after the interior and minor body work). The intake is fairly close to being done minus a little aluminum welding to close up some holes that I want filled (mainly for cosmetic reasons). This is starting to get fun!

If I end up needing help, I'll give you a PM. If it looks like it will be easy enough, and I have enough time, I'm going to powder coat the center T-bar and the outer T-top edges for a little bit better protection.
