i just picked up another camaro. its an 86 and the door key wont open the hatch.

im not sure if the hatch was replaced at some point, or if the lock is just broken, but im looking for a way to get it open.

if i use a screwdriver and vice grips, will the hatch open, and if so will it still open and close without replacing the lock? I plan on replacing the lock, but i cant have the hatch stuck open either in the mean time.

any suggestions? I cant get to the cd changer,and its driving me nuts!

Just about every 3rd gen I've seen in the junkyards has the hatch lock openable with a screw driver, and they all still latch closed. I've never done it myself, but I can say it will work.

Do you have more than 1 set of keys??? I got several sets with mine and some copies will not open the hatch or unlock the doors. Try some other keys if you have them.

 

Try pushing down on the decklid as you turn the key,may work.
