GTA rear hatch close/release problem

GTA rear hatch close/release problem

SO without thinking i slammed the trunk on my gta and since then the electric release/close wont work, the metal contacts look alright and the hatch release mechanism is not stuck closed but it wont close now that i did that. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have a suggestion. thanks

do you mean that it won't pull the hatch down?? if not, check the connections on the motor (you will have to remove the interior panel to access it)... They can come loose pretty easily...

i shouldnt have to take the panel off the hatch itself though right, i believe the motor would be somewhere on the back under that panel, ive never had to deal with one before

Yeah, the motor is located behind where your key goes in to unlock it...

Remove the 4 plastic screws on the hatch surround trim, then the two phillips head screws near the latch. The metal contacts you speak of have NOTHING to do with the hatch pull-down unit. They power the HMSL (High Mount Stop Light). Follow the instructions in the Tech article I wrote. It is at the very bottom under the "General Repair" category. There are many things that could have gone bad when you slammed the hatch. One common problem would be that the clear plastic part called the motor housing cracked and broke where it attaches to the frame. I sell a reinforced version of it.
