Camaro hood emblem replacement

I bought my Camaro without a hood emblem, so I'm ordering a new one online. Only thing is, it appears that the previous owner had the area painted over, so I'm going to have to fight through it in order to install the new emblem. Any specifics on dos and don'ts while removing the paint will be appreciated.

Ya know, the little red-white-and-blue thing with the chevy logo on it that's been dead center at the front of every Camaro since 1967.

oh, nose emblem, how was the spot painted over? Is the indention still there? There should be an indention in the of the emblem with two mounting holes. If not then the previous owner had it shaved and I don't believe there would be a way to cleanly reinstall the emblem without repainting the area. Anyone know if it'd be possible?

If they painted over it, remove the old one and replace it.

You can use an 82-92 emblem or you can use a 93-02 emblem. They're the same size, one attaches with two studs, the other with 3m tape.

EASY.

If its the old emblem thats painted over isnt there a good chance that the paint will crack around the area when the old emblem is separated from the nose?

Guess I needed to be clearer. The car doesn't have an emblem, but the spot where the emblem should go has been painted over. There is an indentation where should be, it's just globbed over.

I would use a razor blade or an exacto knife to cut around on the inside of the paint. Then I would carefully chip the paint up inside the creases. The slices should keep the chipping paint form going outside of the area. Just be careful.
