You get ragged on so hard partly because of youre choice in materials and partly because of the stupid things you say. Unless you are completly mentally handicapped it shouldnt take you more then 2-3 seconds to zip up a bag.

When I got my car, the bag was "gone".. for about two months I just wrapped them in a towel to keep them from rattling, and used a pair of belts I picked up at an army surplus store to strap them down.

Eventually the fact that I had a fuzzy green bath towel in my car bothered me and I bought a new bag from a wrecker.

I also HATE the bag, its a pain compared to the 2x4. I like the idea. Just ask yourself... What would look better 1) you open your hatch to put your tops in a zipper looking suitcase bag thing and try to shove them all the way in straight, then you mess around with the straps that hold the bag in place
2) you drop them into place with the bar
No contest for me, I like the bar
I would re-cover it in matching carpet from a parts car, grey is the most common color so this would be easy. He could also make "guides" (pieces that hold the wood in place / some type of reinforcement)
To top it off you could put several nails in one end of the wood and cover that part up. Then you could use your nail-board weapon to hit people who dont like your idea. (joke, I dont want to promote any violence)

I kinda like this soltion to the whole mess...

Release the two locks on the number 1 bow, release the #5 bow latch, release the tonneau cover and flip the WHOLE top down into its 'zipper bag' where the zipper never wears out....

Convertibles the only way to go.....

My first bag fell apart also. I found another one in a San Diego junkyard and repaired the parts that had become unstitched around the zipper. Lot's better than my old one.

I would be willing to chip in a few $ for my "bagless" brother as soon as the punk that owes me $5 for the gauge needles that I sent him last year coughs up. (You know who you are! Don't make me dog you in a public forum!)

And if you really want a job, join the military. You can still email from the Gulf. I did for a few months.

Jim.

THE FUR MUST GO!

You say you have no cash but when I looked at your car site i found this

"This is the newest thing i have done to my car speaking because i just did it last night, 7-30-03. I recovered the headliner board with fur(for all you naturalists its artificial fur, only 8.37 per/yard)"

I would have stayed with a crapy headliner and spent the cash on a bag for the tops! You do know what it will cost if they break? I do give you props for an idea that may work but stop poor mouthing and get a bag! THE FUR MUST GO!

I saw the date. Did you have a t top bag when you did that?

Like a said just spring for the bag its about the cheapest thing you can do for your ride. If they break in your hatch it will cost you alot more than $20 or so it will cost you to get a bag. If you dont have the cash maybe you should put it on you list of things to get for your ride. I would also look in to a head liner to replace the fur you have now. THats something that costs a few bucks!

O in case you forget!

THE FUR MUST GO!

If ya have the room back there, it's kinda a neat idea (although I'll agree, I don't like the fur), but it's not like you can SEE the fur when the t-tops are in there anyways.

But think about it like this... it's hot, but there's cloud cover. If it starts to rain, it would take 2 secs to pull the t-tops out if they were stored like that. MUCH longer if you had to pull them out of the bag.

I don't think I'd do it thought (even if I didn't have the subs in the back storage area), though, because you'd really never have space to store anything. At least with the t-tops in the t-top bag, there's still space down there.

Guillotine

A word of caution. For sure would be better if you can secure the tops in place. I suggest factory style straps connected to the original hooks. Better yet, use the GM bag with straps secured. The thought of a ttop flying to the front of the car in a 55 mph collision is not pleasant. Even 30 mph is plenty fast to put one in the front seat. Envision it deflecting off the angled back window.

Just don't wear your seatbealt, that way you'll be flying away from it with equal speed...

LOL. Thanks for the laugh. Probably the best joke I'll hear all week. I appreciate a good sense of humor. Yeah, it's a sick sense of humor, but I'm still laughing.
