How to take paint off?

How do you get the old paint off the front bumper cover. I have a 87 Z28 bumper cover in my backyard that I got from a junkyard but the paint is all cracked and I have tried sanding it but didnt make a dent in it. I was just wondering if any of you knew of something to put on it that will strip the paint off. Thanks

What grit sandpaper did you use? Don't use any higher than 180, that will take forever to make a dent. I used between 80 and 180 for my entire car and did it by hand, wasn't fun, but now I know better, I have now have a d/a sander

I've used 220 blocked and by hand on my whole car and i've spent a total of maybe 4 hours to sand half the car, that includes taking bumpers, GFX, door panels, moldings off the car.
I think 80 grit would put some mean marks that will have to be wet sanded out of the primer or it will show up when you paint? I wouldn't go any lower than 120 grit, Specially on polyurethane. To each his own though.

180 grit on a D/A sander. Walmart sells a nice Skill electric D/A for about $35

Yeeaahh, come to think of it I think I only used 180 on my paint. I used 80 on my rims to get the clear coat off for polishing, but that was a little too low, sorry for the misinfo.

Check Autozone, they sell a spray on paint stripper for flexible bumpers. It doesn't work as well as the conventional paint stripper, but it does work eventually.

I would then use 120 grit for the first pass to clean up anything the paint stripper didn't get.

I tried 80 gritt on a DA on my front bumper and put a nice gash in it, oops lol. I then decided to play it safe and did the rest by hand. I had to use a flexible bumper repair kit to fix that screw up.
