cool. I hear they have a problem though. that you can start them in gear if you happen to leave the car in gear . I thought they have a neutral start, or some crap.

not sure why people said they will start in any gear. It only starts in Neutral and in Park. The bad side about it is that you don't have to have the keys in the ignition to get the car in gear, you can put it in gear anytime you want....and you don't even have to push the brake in.

Hows that bad? That would be no different than being able to shift a manual into gear with the key not in the ignition. BTW what the "power plate" switch do? LOL it looks pretty sweet, NO2 or something else?

I love how people think on here...lol....but your right man, I never thought about it that way. The "power plate" is for my elctronic exhuast cutout. "McCord Power Plate II". So I thought I'd have some decals made up that said "Power Plate" and put'em on. I've had so many people think that it's nitrous...lol

I installed mine in my car over a year ago and I dont like it at all. It is hard to get out of park and shift. I returned it once and they said it was fine and gave me another one. Still the same results. Cable is not kinked or anything. I maybe should have just used my stock cable but they said not to so I didnt. It looks nice though. I also didnt put any locktite on mine and the threads are all stripped. Now I need a new stick and handle. Oh well....live and learn.

Damn I miss that shifter. I installed mine about 10 months ago, and then in Feb. my car got totaled and I didn't get it out. It was by far the best mod I had done to that car....so much fun to drive, looked cool as hell, and just gave the car a better feel with car/driver communication. The only PITA part about it is adjusting the cable...so if you can use the stock one I would suggest that...saves A LOT of unnecessary work and time.

The ability to shift from one gear to another without missing a single gear due to its ratcheting action. More precise, firmer, and faster shifts when done manually. Not to metion it looks awesome in these cars IMO.

I basically got this shifter for the looks because I don't race my car. BUT, this shifter really does help if you want to race. Throw it into low....tach it out...and hit the shifter up...then tack it out again...hit it up...keep doing that....it makes it so you can't skip a gear and you CAN NOT hit reverse with it, which is great. It's a very strong shifter....the hardest part is getting it out of park....takes alot of muscle....but it's a great shifter and I love the looks of it

Yeah, just transferred my megashifter from my old red firebird over to my GTA.. It feels great to have it back!! Its harder to shift out of park, but not really that bad. Takes a bit more muscle, but the ability to control your shifts positively is a great reward for that little inconvenience.. Its really great when you've got an awesome tranny with firm shifts and you can bang out the gears!

I used a fresh B&M cable on mine. The adjustment is very simple and I like the design of the B&M cable, seems nice a solid..

Looks sweet!

Where'd you get those pedals? Are they clamp ons or replacements? I'd like a set of those for my IROC!

I got those pedal covers (clap on) on ebay for really cheap...like 12 bucks. They are all aluminum...so I polished'em up. They used to have "type-r" printed in them...but I sanded it off...and polished'em....now they look great

My buddy works for Detroit Speed And Enginerring . . . when I put my shifter in it was hard to pull it out of gear . . . . He told me to put a washer under the 2 front bolts where it bolts to the transmission. I did it and it goes in and out of park easy because there is less tension on the cable.

Hope this helps,

Sean

By the way...hope you keep a towel or rag handy to cover it when you leave it in the sun...that S.O.B. gets HOT!!!!

I ended up buying the black plastic handle...doesn't look too shabby either.

if you're having a hard time switching gears, best advice i can give. put the tranny in the center most position (whether it be D or OD) then put the shifter in the same position. then adjust the cable accordingly at the tranny side. i had a mechanic mess mine up when they swore they didnt touch anything..... no probs since

I've adjusted the crap out of the Mega Shifter both times I've dealt with them (89 RS and 89 IROC). I've always had that problem with getting it out of park. I gave my last one away for free I hated it so much. My IROC came with another Mega Shifter (previous owner mod). Feel like I cant get away from these things. Never tried the washer though. I'll have to give it a try.

What kind of hacking did you have you have to do? Was there any wiring involved? Instructions simple/straightforward? I'am considering buying one....

Since I used the factory bracket....I had to do alot of hacking...because I kind of broke all the rules. To me, the wiring was very simple....but i had to mess with the swtich alot..and set it up perfectly because my reverse lights were on constantly. The instructions recommend that you buy a relay from radio shack....I did....but didn't use it. It works exactly the same with the relay not installed...I notice no difference at all. The instructions aren't to bad. If your concerdering buying one...do ALOT of research before you buy it. I did 4 months or research beore I bought mine..and by the time I read through the instructions...and got to doing it....everything seemed to make sense.

I guess you didn't understand how I installed mine....

I did not use the cable they supplied...I used the factory cable....SO, I have to cut the brackets off, dirll holes, shave metal...ect.....so..that's where the hacking came from when I installed mine.

If you use the cable they supplied, which just about everyone does...you will have to get underneath the car....and do plenty of adjustments. I used my factory cable....and I had to modify the shifter and make a bracket....but that way....I didn't have to crawl underneath the car or anything.

Mine Sucked. After couple months i took it off and threw it in the pile of junk in the garage. I regret that.

I installed mine last year. It is hard to put into gear but you get used to it. I love it.
