quick hood support question

I just went and bought 2 new gas struts for the hood on my '89. On the instructions, it says to have someone hold up the hood, and in big bold caps DO NOT USE A PROP. Is this a liability clause, or is it actually a bad idea to use a GM-Issued Broomstick to hold the hood up while I'm changing it?

Thanks!

Probably liability, but make sure you prop in the middle so the hood doesn't tweak on you. It is also easier if you have someone hold it as the hood has to be all the way up to get the struts on.
