roofing company damaged my car...
I had my GTA in my apartment garage on Friday, and my landlord decided to have the roof stripped. So I open my garage on Saturday and my car is covered in dirt and roof shingle rocks. I didn't think much of it, just that I would have to sweep my garage out and wash my car. Well, I washed my car Sunday and found the hood had a dozen or more little paint chips from the falling rocks.
I showed them to my landlord. He had hired a rag-tag roofing crew so I doubt they have any insurance. I got an estimate today to paint the hood, headlight covers, and hood grilles. It was $660. Does this price seem average (california)?
Any advice on how I should handle this? Thanks.

Heya 89M U L L E TBird:
Whereabouts in CA are you?
I'd think that price seems a bit low, but maybe that's because I'm in South County, near Mission Viejo. First of all, I imagine the roofers are first of all responsible for it. 2nd would be your landlord. You can go after the roofer directly, but if they're not willing to pay after a court order, then you're outta luck if they go belly up. If you go after your landlord (assuming you can) then he'd still have to pay up even if the roofers screw him/her, on the grounds of allowing a company (of dubious rep/ quality) to work on your dwelling without your prior consent. I'm no lawyer, but I think you have a valid case with the landlord.
EDIT: ok I see you're in HB. We had a cruise thereabouts a few months ago.
