my lucky day maybe
hey guys, this board seems more about modding a Gen3 then anything else and i have a question.
i have two 92 rs and then one that i got for free was in a minor accident and it was totally gutted in the interior.
i have all the neccessary parts to the interior, sail panels and such,
but just lately i came into a 95 RS, the whole car,, the airbags are blown but its all there. and i was wondering a few things.
one, does it have an aluinum drivweshaft.
two, is the 4l60e superior to the 700r4 and is it an easy swap
three, could i use the dash with the blown airbags with some modification to repair the pass side and use the thirdgen column in the car without conflict
four, can i use the console with the dash and how hard is all that to install
five, is the v6 wiring harness and ecm the same minus chip that they used in the lt1 cars
six, is it worth it or should i just wait for a wrecked thirdgen to strip and just sell all the parts.
thnkx

Im guessing the 95 RS was totalled or in some sort of an accident. If so, I would swap the entire interior in and use the LT1 out of it.
#1. Yes it has an aluminum driveshaft, but it lacks the sound dampener that the 98+ 3" aluminum driveshafts have.
#2. I dunno
#3. Repair passenger side??? But yes, the dash and console fit with very minor modifications and the door panels will fit but you will need to fill the gap on the bondom of the doors.
#4. look at #3.
#5. Do you mean engine wiring? If so, obviously no. Do you mean the interior wiring by any chance?
#6. IMO, it's worth it, but clarify your questions.

Correct the RS was only a decal and exterior enhancement mod on the 4th gens, they are only available with a V6 to my knowledge.

the 4l60 is computer controled so to swap it in you need the wireing out of the 95 and the computer, or you can buy an after market 4l60 controler. If you do the whole drive train you will need all the wireing out of the 95 and the computer. If you do the entire interior including the dash I would snag the interior wiering out of the 95 also.
the 4l60e will give you alot better gas milage and quicker responce over the 700r4, but the 4l60e is basically the next generation of the 700r4 it will not be any stronger unless you get one that was matched up to a Ls1 or LT1.
Good luck

umm, k
like i said i have the whole 95. it is a 4.3 v6. i looked under it and it seems not to have an aluminum driveshaft so im thinking no it also doesnt have a disk brake rear which sucks but oh well.
i am going to steal the whole interior though, i cant see the dash working though its just way too long, whats up with that?
the 4l60 e will give me better response AND better fuel mileage? how exactly does it pull that miracle. define response. see cause if it has a wider gear then yeah it might support lower revves in fourth but that would kill some response wouldnt it?

4th gen V6's were only 3.4 (60 degree V6) and 3.8 (90 degree). If its a 3.4 (93-early 95), then the tranny will have a 60 Degree bellhousing, which doesn't bolt onto the V8s.

I would take the entire interior; dash, console, seats. And that would be it, cuz I think the rest is totally useless. Except maybe to sell. But even that I doubt youd get much for a parted 3.4
So if you want the interior from that one you should add up how much it would cost you to find those pieces another way and compare that to how much it would cost you for the 95 rs.

i allready have the car.200 bucks with a running motor
thought it was a 4.3? ill check on it to see...
what id like to do is sell my heritage car and use the money to buy an ltI and if my thinking is correct then even with the modding of the interior to fit in it will save me money because ill have a gen2 obd2 wiring setup that should require any splicing or anything. am i right? since i HAVE the car allready, assuming that the trans is a 90 deg. bellhousing would i be further ahead to go ahead and use that instead of the 700r4 in the car allready?

It's either a 3.4 or a 3.8 No such thing as a 4.3. I'm almost positive you have the 3.4. But if it's a 3.8 you could possibly use the tranny. Find out for yourself, but I'm almost positive.

I only meant concerning the camaro in question. No fourth gen ever had a 4.3 in it from the factory. Although it was implied, I thought it was obvious. Oh well. :lala:

by better response I mean its in the gear it should be, the 700r4's have this habbit of taking a sec or two to down shift. They just feel tighter than the 700r4, and the overdrive is more effecent is why you get better gas miliage, although on a v6 im not positive of that ive only worked with them matched up to v8's

cant get the bloody hood open. grrrr. stupid drunk. i do like the interior in it though.
motor and trans aside.
im assuming the gap at the bottom of the doors that you speak of is because the panels are shorter height wise? how do you fix that can you run the trim around the bottom of the door in a thirdgen as well?

If it IS a 3.4, you could find someone in your area w/ a 2.8 and sell it, because its a common swap the V6ers do, when the 2.8 dies or if they just need a little bit more power.

Hey- the 4L60 was a redesignation for the 700R4, same transmission although it has been continually upgraded so later versions would be better. The 4L60E is the designation for the electronically controlled version. Fourth gens had the 4L60E.
