Need exterior pics of your paint job if...

You have a pre-'91 Trans Am with the body one color and the ground effects another color. My car is black but needs paint. The two top options I'm considering is a black body with red accents, or silver accents.

By "accents" I mean ground effects, hood vents, brake calipers (front only ), *maybe* fender vents and *maybe* door handles. Not sure what else right now, but those are my plans. I think the vents would look cool a different color from the body, but I want to see some examples first if anyone else has done it. I think silver would look better than red, but I'm considering them both.

I want to keep the car black so I don't have to mess with re-painting the insides of some panels (around the gas door, inside of doors, inside engine bay, etc., though I probably will sand it all down and paint from the metal up (i.e. primer, basecoat, topcoat, etc. I'm considering POR-15 underneath as well).

I don't really like the gold look and that's a somewhat popular color match for these cars. Then again, it is pretty rare too. I'd like to see some pics if anyone has any (either of a hood with the vents a diff color, or of the car with ground effects a diff color)..

I kinda think black with silver gfx would be too much of a clash.I woul do all black if you don't want to repaint everything.Or even maybe red and leave the door jams and all those places black.I painted my 84 silver and it used to be black. It looked pretty cool.

Ah, nice that's what I'm talking about. Did you paint it yourself? What paint did you use for those gfx? That's the exact color I'd want. My car would be identical to that except in black. I'm still kind of curious as to whether anyone has painted the vents a different color. I'm just curious as to how it would make them stand out.

Oh, and that spoiler looks awesome on that car. I want it! That's off a Camaro right?

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing. That's why I wanted some pics. It'd be nice if I could find a pic like what I'm talking about, but maybe no one's done it yet Anyways, I had considered painting my car all silver. I don't know if I'd go silver or gunmetal gray though cuz I love the look of gunmetal gray.

I think, if done right, the silver on black would look cool. I'm kind of nervous about doing it myself. My plans are to do my hood first since that's probably the part that needs paint the worst, so I'll try it out on that. I think I'm going to do it part by part (i.e. pull fender off, sand it down, remove any rust under the paint, and start spraying). I have a few rust-bubbles that I'd like to take care of.

Thanks, I did paint it myself.Yes that is a camaro wing. When I painted my 84 I did the vents, wing,And the top ob my power bulge scoop black. It looked awsome.I would put a pic up but I only have paper pics of that car.I used silver from the forth gen camaros, can't remember what code it was.I would stick with silver, both look good but silver looks so much better in all different lighting.

Agreed. I don't know about painting the whole car silver though because I do like the black look of these cars, and I think the "clash" with the silver gfx would look pretty cool. Then again, silver would reflect all the heat in the summer and doesn't tend to look dirty as quickly.. Decisions decisions! In that case, I think I'd have to stick with the same-colored ground effects, unless going with gunmetal gray (or charcoal gray colored) for the ground effects and vents.

Now I'm considering shaving my door handles too... but that's going to cost more money, lol... I gotta start saving to finish my 355ci build to drop in over the winter. I already paid for all the LT1 intake and cam stuff, so I'm about done for performance parts until the 355. My next paycheck is going to go towards some suspension mods (wonderbar, for one, and some SFCs maybe along with some LCA brackets). Then I'll start splitting it between hmm...gas, the Nicole fund (*cough* spending money), 400HP-355ci fund, paint fund

Paid 2 G's for mine too, just over a month ago.. 78k original miles, 305TPI, auto, 2.73 posi drum rear, alum driveshaft and WS6 package (both of which were surprises AFTER I bought the car). It needed tires and some front steering linkage (centerlink, idler arm, outer tie rod end, ball joint). And then the full tuneup, and $867 later, it runs great. Hard starts though...gotta figure out why. I thought it was the fuel filter, but its not apparently, though I might replace that again since it did seem to work for a few starts after that.

Got some pics on there of it. The paint is faded bad on the hood and from behind the doors to the back on the top especially. Gotta love it...1988, first year of the ****ty GM paint jobs. I want to drop a 4th gen rear in so bad, but I just blew all my money on an LT1 intake/cam conversion. For the money, I'd probably notice a bigger difference going with a 3.23 or 3.42 4th gen rear, but that's okay. I wanted to be one of the first to do the mod on a 305 but found out there's been a few before me. Also want to show my buddy something a bit different for a 305 (I'm not telling him about the swap until he sees my before/after track results )

Looks sweet.I like the black. It would look better with some new wheels though.I like the gta's but on a black car,it's a little too much. Some polished wheel would look awsome.

Awesome I think that's the look I want. Yeah I'm not a big fan of the wheels either. Going to get some 4th gen rims once I get the 4th gen rear and I'll pick up a set of spacers for the front.

That pic looks a bit too white for the ground effects too. Maybe I'd pick something a bit darker silver to match a bit better so it doesn't look so black and white.

That is BEAUTIFUL! I'm definitely going that route. Not sure about the vents anymore though, I'll see when the time comes.

I'd considered the wing as well, but I don't know if that's any good. It might look a little too...umm....not me. I'm considering the door handles though. I guess the wing wouldn't be a bad idea since there wouldn't be any color but black in the back, whereas the hood would have silver vents, the fenders maybe silver vents, the door handles maybe silver, etc.

What year Camaro is that spoiler off of, and did you originally have the wrap-around one that I have? I need a new spoiler because my foam one pisses me off (the paint is all cracking off really bad). If you did have the wrap-around spoiler, what did you have to do to the hatch to get the new one on there...or did you just grab the hatch off a Camaro?

I also have an 86 trans am and it came with the high rise spoiler on it and my 87's aero wing was warped and rotting so I switched them.I'm going to buy another aero wing though.I think it came on the 91-92 camaro anniversary edition. You can get them for around 200 bucks. If you use the original hatch then it's best to weld in the holes, grind them down, then use some body filler to smooth things out.

Yuck $200 for a spoiler...I'll feel like a ***** spending that much money on a spoiler, lol. Think I'd rather take one off of like a Honda Prelude or something... LOL! Nah, I'll see what I'm going to do when the time comes. I'm not even sure when I'm going to paint this now...whether I'm going to do it before winter, or if I'm going to do it after winter..
