Do they still make these? Damn I hope so. Didnt think about them as I was scraping away.

Only prob is that they are covered in glue, like what I am cleaning up. Need a brand new one (well, four big ones and two little ones... the dealer has the little ones for the rear seats). I think he called them water drain plugs, or something.

Is it absolutely needed to glue the sound deadner to the floorboard like it was before?

No, but the drain plugs need to be sealed back up to keep water from entering the car. Also I removed mine from the car when I was redoing my carpet. I just took a leather mallet and straightened the dents out on a piece of railroad track and re-installed them. When I put the deadener back in, I just laid it out and put the carpet over it and re-installed the interior. As for getting the glue off the plugs, get a die grinder and some scotch brite rollo-locs to remove the largest portion of it. It won't hurt to leave a little on them.

Ah ok cool. Ill do so if I cant find new ones.

What kind of glue should I use to glue down the new deadener? Ill probably get some caulk or something to seal the plugs, but on top of that what kind of glue should I use? Someone else on another board recommended "liquid nails" but then someone else said that it would be even HARDER to get that stuff up if I decided to replace the carpet again.

So someone else said to use some 3M spray adhesive. Not sure the name of the stuff but hopefully home depot or somewhere has it.

I would use the 3M spray adhesive, it can be found at any auto parts stores & wal-marts. I would just attach the deadener to the carpet and not the floor pan because of all the wires along the floorpan.

If they are all bad, you could just remove them all together with some skillfull metal work and welding, not to mention a little colour matching if your floor is clean. I have shaved them from many f-body, works well, just my 2 cents!

Ok cool. The deadener is already attached to the carpet, so thats no worry.

I was recently advised not to glue the carpet down, that the "glue" that was holding the deadener down when i removed the carpet was in fact not glue but a layer of sealant (for the floor pan plugs) to keep water out - and that over time, heat made the deadener stick to this orange layer.
And that I should just get a new layer of adhesive, lay it down on each of the 6 holes (with the plugs in, of course), and then just lay the carpet down and be good to go.

Well dammit, the longer plugs are not actually water drain plugs, but plugs GM puts in before they lay the carpet down. The reason the holes are there is for the manufacturing process (rods inserted upwards to keep the body from falling off the assembly line).

GM only sells these plugs with complete fenders (which they dont make anymore). So probably no luck finding them.
