The final solution to rodents?

I finally got around to taking my car out of storage for what remains of the summer only to find that the rodents have had a lot of fun with it while I was away.
I had placed about 100 bounce drier sheets throughout the car but it didn't seem to affect the behavior of the mice. In fact, the smell of their activity completely overpowered the odor of the bounce sheets by the time i returned.
I am currently dissassembling the interior, cleaning all of the crap out of the vents, under the carpet, and behind every interior panel, etc.
My question to anyone who knows is this:

What is the best method for keeping rodents away from your car while it is stored? I never want to have to do this again, I'm sure many people have been through this before, what have you done to prevent it? Are those ultra-sonic rodent repellers effective? I was thinking about throwing a bunch of those in the car next time if anyone has something positive to say about them.

Move to a better area. Or get rid of the garbage.

I tried the drier sheets and it seemed to work for me the last time. When i didnt use them i opened my door to find a mouse in the damn door!! I would also like to know what works for people, as i will again be storing it at a different spot, and dont want mice issues again. i was lucky and only had a small amount of insulation in my rear wheel well, though they somehow eat through the rear glove box to store it in there... bastards!!

Place about 5 mousetraps on each seat and 10 in the trunk. Then put 2 in each exhaust pipe. After your done with that, take out your air filter and put a few in there(remember to shut your airfilter). And I almost forgot, there is a lip of metal under your gas tank, put a few on their and you should be all set.

Mouse traps wouldn't work for me since I don't see the car often enough to take the dead mice out. Mothballs might work, but I would like to try a product specifically made for the purpose of keeping mice away, especially since i had no luck with the drier sheets. What is strange is that the exact same things work for some people but do nothing for other people. Although I'm really curious about the sonic mouse repellents.

Wow, after reading the part about mouse trap at tailpipes I just got a wicked image of how come some people find they have a dead cylinder or two after they leave their car in storage for a while.... just imagine a car w/ no Cat (how ironic, a cat would stop a mouse) and he just runs past your mufflers and up into your combustion chamber to make nest. Then a few months later all of a sudden "SMASH" goes the mouse hah... eww.... -shudders-

As for your problem w/ rats, I would assume that if you could put it in a trailer by the side of your house, it would be harder for mice to get through... might be cheaper in the long run as well.

Yes Mothballs do work!!!!!!
I have no shortage of mice in my area, and my storage garage is not sealed from the outside world very well.(I have about a hundred year old shed that is, hopefully, coming down next year for my new shop.) I use mothballs exclusively, (the problem is, getting the moths to hold still long enough!!)
I put a paint can lid full of them in the engine bay, 1 in the interior, and 1 under the car. No probs.
Seriously, if you can get past the smell every year, it works.
It's good to know about the old wives tale on the drier sheets, though, not cool for you, but it helps cause I was thinking of this fix to avoid the smell.
