Anyone ever heard of a 84 turbo Z-28? this seems to be a two hundred mile per hour head with a 8,000 rpm tach?...I`d like to have the tach as my car bounces of the needle a few hundred feet before the end of the `1320

what the hell, Ive never heard of rare Turbo 84 Z28. Thats full of crap. 200mph speedo with a 8000rpm tach? The only turbo that rings into mind is a 1989 TTA anniv edit with 3.8 Turbo. Im not even sure if those came with 200mph speedos, or did they (TTAs)?

Mebbe it could be a canadian gauge cluster that goes to 200 kph???

Or maybe at some time someone put in overlays to impress people with how high the gauge goes??????? I know its a stretch.

There were a couple aftermarket tuners that offered various packages for thirdgens. Early on when it was just an 85mph speedo, a lot of these tuners upgraded the speedo. I don't know the origin of this style in particular, but I do know that a few exist.

After looking around on the net. I found this.

It is an interior shot of a Gale Banks Turbo 82 Z/28

Look at the speedo, it is very similar to the one in the auction. The tach apears to be a little diffrent. It is very possible that came from a Gale Banks car.

The speedo pictured above was an aftermarket speedo. It was actually an over the counter part.

That gale banks car def has a different speedo than the one that`s for sale......it does say turbocharged so it may just be a gale banks design. I wish it didn`t say turbo on it but I not goona lay out that kinda money for a speedo that may not even work.

Bingo, Banks sold those 200 mph "turbo" speedos and a 140 speedo that just said "Z-28" on it (I have that one). Not factory i any way, shape or form, but they were a hell of a lot better than the factory 85 mph ones.

Not the one posted. Factory speedos were 145 and did not say Z28 on them.

To clarify, the 140mph speedos with the Z28 on the lower face were a GM service part, but were not installed in any cars at either Van Nuys or Norwood.

It was listed under P/N 25052189 (obsolete now) and the wholesale price was approximately $109. (circa 1983)

It could be installed in any 82-84 (and possibly later ones with the single pointer 85mph speedometers), but the font type for the numerals matched only the 83-up, even though it's not that noticeable in the 82 with the more rounded number type.
