Leaky Hatch
anyone had any problems with water pooling up in the cubby hole in the trunk? i left a bunch of clothes back there in the cubby hole and when i went to take them out they were soaking wet and there was water standing in the bottom. I looked all over the hatch to see if i could find water trails but could find nothing. is this a common problem?

I had the same problem with mine. After a night of rain I opened the hatch and water driped from the under hatch panel (plastic panel on the underside of hatch). I bought a tube of Windshield sealer and sealed where the hatch glass meets the hatch panel. That sorted it out. It could also be the hatch seal but you should now by looking at it if it needs replacing.

my z 28 did that with new seals it was the seal at the hatch to the glass so i removed it and redid the glass seal and clean the rust and crud out at the same time.
see the tech article on aligning you hatch and that will show you how to reseal it.

I replaced the seal on mine and I had water as well exhaust smell getting in the car. I took a piece of paper and layed it on the seal and closed the hatch. then I would try to move the paper around the hatch. When I hit a spot that the paper would move easily, I found a low spot. What I did then was to lift the seal up some and I used 3-M adhesive sealant to glu the seal up on the lip some. Let it set up, preferably overnite, and the close the hatch and see if the paper would be tight. The sealant would hold the seal up and not allow it to drop back down when I closed the hatch. Problem solved, no water or smell of exhaust. Hope this helps you some.

Something else to consider. Don't forget to check the wheel well for a hole. You could be throwing water into that compartment from the tire.

I had the same problem, only mine was the window leaking. I just resealed the window and it looks good. No problems so far!

if you feel the weatherstrip you should be able to feel 2 soft spots, I put towels there for the longest time and that fixes the problem for the most part unless it POURS! I'm gonna just get new weatherstriping, it's not all that expensive.

a co-worker mentioned that possibility, i pulled the back carpet and didnt see any holes, so i think im ok there. after talking to you guys im pretty confident that the problem is where the glass meets the hatch at the bottom. gonna check it out this week sometime.

Also check the drivers side fender well, My hatch was leaking and I pulled off the interior on that side to find a gallon and a half off water just laying there. I was pissed. Now there is some rust bubbles down there which I have to take care of.

geez, i hope that isnt the case. if i see any rust on my car its gonna get a for sale sign thrown in the window. i bought it specifically cause it was rust free. hopefully it will just be the glass, i can fix that easy.

I sure hope that that don't happen to you. I just wanted to let you know about that happening to me. If you glove box was geting wet, I really would would take the time to check it out. I think I had water down there for a few months and I did not think to check untill I had my car parked for awhile and notice I puddle under that fender to take a look.
