Dash Pads... Is There Only One For Birds?

I ran into a dash pad that looks a little different- Instead of having a finish that had a grain pattern this one is smooth looking.

Any ideas if there were two versions for 82-92 firebirds?

There are at least 2 versions that I know of. My original '83 pad had a reveal line around the edge. I replaced it with an '89 pad which was smooth with no line. I don't remember there being a difference in the grain (but I replaced the pad long, long ago).

I believe there are three pad designs. 82-84, 85-90, 91/92 (looks identical to 85-90, but the mounting holes are different. Please correct me if I am wrong.

that's correct from what I've seen. The 82-84's have a "pleat" so to speak on the very front of the pad. Also, from 85 on, the speaker covers are different and the texture of the pad itself is different.

I dont know of any difference among 85-92 dash pads as far as fitment. Some of the high-end models were optioned with a sound-permeable cloth glued to the plastic speaker grills.

Yes I believe the GTAs got the ones w/ the cloth speaker covers.

I also don't find any difference between 85-89 and 90-92, because we put a pad out of an 87 GTA and put it into my ex-girlfriend's 92. Looked just like my 89's

Ive heard that the locations of the screw holes on the 91/92 were different, thats why I mentioned it, appearance wise, it is identical to the 85+ dash pad.

well 82 83 84 is unique

that goes for camaros and birds both,

85up are new dashpad design for both lines of cars
if you come across a factory nice 82 83 84 pad for either line of car then you just came across a real gem,

but dont tell everyone, we need a supply of them, my 82 t/a pad is trashed bad huge gaping valleys in it peeling horribly huge chunks

for now it has no pad at all, it will be liek that for quite a long time unles si miraculously comes across another mint 82 83 84 pad, i had one two years ago from an 84 s/e i parted and i freaking scrapped it just before coming upon this 82 t/a i have now

ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!1
havent seen another nice one ever since,

actually i had another one from an 85 trans am, but well isnt same anyways i wouldnt have used it anyways

scrapped it too,
sold the disc posi 3.08 axle for 30 bucks to a neighbor,

parts dont sell for much anymore

market and demand went down through the basement for car parts ever since everyone lost their jobs in 2002 mainly, its been crap ever since, no one has a dime tro their name anymore, im 10k in debt and jobless still after all the damn layoffs, i managed to get the trans am fired up and moveable under its own power for next to no money at all though, somehow,.,.! but it is really rigged up big time!
for now

tilt he lottery jackpot is in my favor

good luck with yours!

That's why when you're dealing with old cars now, you save everything that you have related to them. Well, space may be an isue, but hey. who cares?

what's the difference between an 82-84 Camaro dashpad and the 85-up pads?

i know for a fact that a dash pad from an 84 firebird will not match up in an 87 camaro. i have a perfect dash pad , i mean just about mint in my 84 bird which i will be soon parting out,i tried putting it in my 87 camaro, and the fit was not even close, the bird dash was not wide enough, but if these dashes are as hard to find in mint condition,as stated in an above post ,someone is going to very happy when i get around to parting out the bird.
