Post pics of 91 aero wing on 85+ T/A's
I love the way these wings look on the 85+ Trans Am's but hardly ever see any pics of them. So please, post a pic and show off your car a bit.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Anyone else?
Do they bolt up to the holes in the hatch from the whale tail? Or do they need new holes? What about the 3rd brake light housing, does it have holes left over?
I remember the 1st time I saw a 91 formula. I was a senior in Highschool (1996-97), and we were outside a Godfather's pizza and this red Firebird with a flat slightly curved down spoiler parks next to my friends 84 HO Trans Am. We were both drooling at this thing, it was so smooth and flat and shiney. We didn't know wtf this thing was, then saw formula and said..."Ohhhhh!"
*** I LOVE 3RD GENS!!!!
Sorry for that post dripping with sentiments. I haven't had a Firebird in over 4 years, and I regret to this day, trading it in. But soon I shall have my GTA. Oh yes, it will be mine!

I'm getting the same spoiler for my 86 and I was wondering the same thing about the clips. I heard it's sturdy enough(spoiler itself) to just bolt it down w/o having to use the clips for the spoiler arms.
does anyone know if the lower pedestal bolt holes line up w/the old aero holes(86-90)?
Sorry to hijack your post.

Don't worry. I was gonna ask the same thing.
Also, what are the differences between the stock 91 Aero spoiler and the aftermarket one?

I didn't use any clips on mine, I just put some weather stripping between the glass and the arms of the spoiler.
Also, the decklid I had on the car had the stock pedestal spoiler and I was able to use 2 fo the 4 holes and just drilled 2 for the new spoiler and filled in the 2 old holes that weren't used.
I beleive I was able to use the holes on each side that were closest to the glass.

For mounting the spoiler to the deck lid, I used the lid off of the 91 so I don't know how difficult it would have been to use the 87 lid. I set the spoiler on the 87 lid, the holes were off so I used the 91 lid. That and the fact that the deck lid from my 87 was pretty ugly (a little rust and very little paint) and the spoiler and lid were red. Win-win if you ask me.
For the clips on the tips, I used 3/8" mirror clips from Home Depot. I got the tip from a guy at GT Auto the supplier of the aftermarket fiberglass spoilers. They are basically just little J-Clips (don't get the Z-clips, they don't work) that hols mirrors on walls. I had to trim them for length but that was easy. The spoiler has been on my car for about a year and a half with no problems at all. I guess I could have gone to the dealer and got the factory clips and welded them to the glass trim, but I didn't want to go that route. The biggest pain in the whole install for me was getting the old clips off the glass channel. I had to cut them off and then grind the spot welds smooth. All in all it took about 3 hours start to finish, and I had to change the deck lid. Don't let anyone fool you, that is not quite as easy as it sounds.

When I put mine on to replace the factory rubber POS ,I had to fill 5 holes and drill 4 new ones. 2 on each end and 1 in the middle for the third brake light wireing to pass thru. In order for the tips to set against the glass rite You Do have to remove the factory clips that are spot welded to the hatch frame. By the way my tips's are not anchored down and I don't have any problems but if you never had a power pull down on the hatch then slamming it down to close it would be hard on it.I put a 1/8th inch piece of foam between the spoiler and the hatch. You can't see it when it's mounted ,it's too compressed. That way moisture is seald out and at the same time adds a little bit of flex between the spoiler and the hatch. There was nothing between the factory one and the hatch. Not the easiest mod but WELL worth the time and trouble.
