Trunk problems

I have owned my 88 camaro for about a month maybe a month in a half and i really like it. I'm already investing every dollar I earn into it. But the other day I went to close the trunk and it wouldn't close. So when i went home to see what was wrong with it, I was struck with confusion. The square ring that is connected to the trunk was no longer lined up straitly with the clasp that catches it when you close your trunk. It was missing the clasp by a good inch. I couldn't believe it and i have no idea how to fix it or how much money its gonna cost to fix it. Can anyone help me with my problem?

Pull off the hatch surround trim. I bet you'll find the motor housing broken. It is common for them to fail where the three screws mount it to tht frame. I reinforce this area with aluminum and epoxy on the ones I sell on my web site.

Read the Tech Article I wrote and you'll be able to repair the hatch pull-down unit yourself.
