That is an SS hood right? it looks a little different to me.

It looks good to me but a 3 inch cowl would look better .

i dont care for that kind of hood personally especially on a firebird but its your car and your hood as long as you like it thats what matters

i personally would have gotten a ram air hood or a cowl if it were me.....

i think it looks much better than a 3 inch cowl, especially on the birds, because a cowl that big, just "cowling" looks a tad , ummmm, funny. On maro's especially on birds. Looks good on there, would be a little more inline , if it was only standard SS height of 1-1.5" I'd go with a blacked out grill in the front (something close to what the mustangs have) to give it some depth, espcially if you don't plan on attempting to make it functional.

It's a super duty hood from hawks. It is a little high for my taste but I haven't seen another bird with one, thats why I got it.It will look a lot better when I get my rims.I can't really decide if I like it that much.If it doesn't really grow on me I'll sell it and by a ram air hood.I want to put a grill in it but I can't decide what kind.

cut a hole, add some silver messhing, then get some of those under chasis lights inside the cowl. clean up the engine, and impress your passengers at night.

Thank you for posting pics of the super duty hood! I think this is the first time someone has posted that hood on and painted. It looks just a bit taller than I expected. I would put a mesh grille insert in the front.

I thought about cutting it and puting a mesh grill in or buying a grill from a mustang or a ss 4th gen to put in.I'll probably put in a mesh grill because the scoop is a little taller then normal.I think I'll put in mesh in the cowl too.

I like it!... for some reason I kept looking at it and thinking something is missing and I think a Chrome grill for the hood in either round or honeycomb holes would look sweet and then I also think that sence you have an SS style hood and a late 90's Z spoiler that the 91-92 side GFX with the scoops from a Z would look killer on that car!

I've been waiting for a bird dude to toss one of those hoods on...I think it actually looks pretty good. As for the front....I made a grill out of billet aluminum.....here is a picture of my grill...

PM me and I can tell you how I made it....

The grill actually went to a late models Mustang. I bought it off of ebay for like $30 bucks...and I had to cut alot of material off for it to fit in the SS hood...I think it's a big improvement over the stock, black, plastic, grill that it came with..

I think the hood is nice overall... one of those things that'll probably grow on you. Those billet inserts are nice 2

84customz28,I've printed pictures of your car to use as a guide on the grill.I found one on ebay but I was wondering how it would turn out being the front of the scoop on mine is taller then yours.I think it might be to narrow for my opening.I think I'm going to order it and do it anyway, any suggestions? The paint is flame red.

I noticed that the front of your SS hood isn't cut out....that will have to be cut out in order to have a grill installed. Mine was already cut out...so I had no problems mounting it. I see what your saying though....your SS scoop is much wider than the Camaro SS hood version....so that could be a problem. You could always use "expanded aluminum" to get a really cool effect in your grill area too....just an idea..

Why dont they make a superduty version of the SS for our Camaros!!! I want one so bad, i'm gonna get stuck getting a cowl hood because the regular SS hood is too low, if they made the superduty one it'd be perfect!!!!! Who do i talk to on this?! I'm gonna get that hood made for my IROC!

I do need to figure something out, grill wise .It looks too plain right now.I just want to make the front cosmetic and maybe put a mesh grill in the cowl to help disipate some heat.I also thought of puting gauges in it.I'm dropping in an intercooled supercharged 350 this winterso I don't know how to make that functional, plus I don't want water getting in.

Hey 87TPI,

Where does the SS grill line up as far the TPI setup goes? Would it be "ram air" with one of those short filters that stick right on the front of the throttle body or is it farther back?

It would be perfect for a speed density tpi.The scoop is right in front of the throttle body. With a stealth ram I think it sits even higher so that would be best.

heres what i did with my ss hood.. i think it was definatly a good idea to do it.. i get so much flow in and out of the hood, my engine stays really cool doing so.. and my aircleaner loves all the air attention now that i went from fi to carb.. durability is fine to, no flexing at all.

just leave like 3/4" around the edge to let it have some corner support and it doesnt take anything away.. still wont flex.

I never liked that hood. I like being proved wrong that it can look good. I can honestly say on a 85-90 TA i like the way it looks.

That hood looks f'n sweet...this is the first I have seen of it on a car and painted. I am considering getting it but was not really sure about the decision until I saw it on your car. :hail:

Were there any fitment issues?

I don't know if it is for all of them but I had to drill out a little more on the hood mount that's on the car if that makes since. It wouldn't go far enough forward until I did.It only took a couple of minutes.
