Yup that dark candy apple red is the color that I think I am gonna go with. Changing colors is just to much work. That red should match the jams and so on close enough for me. All thow I did see a black TA with the red (maroon) interior and it did not look bad.

crumby pic, but it shows the color well

Did you buy that hood or make it? how high is the rise at the closest point to the windshield? I have to put some sort of scoop on mine do to the fact my intake and carb are too tall.

Can you get some more shots of that hood? It seems to have different lines then the rest of the cowl hoods, almost like a 4th gen sunoco hood...

Re: What Color to Paint!
If it is it's funny because they're a different size, different shape and the Jongbloed hood has a center ridge that the sunoco doesn't.
The thing that you were calling a Pontiac Jongbloed hood looked a bit like a cross between the camaro Jongbloed and the pontiac IMCA hood... nothing like a Sunoco or like this hood. It either needed to be smaller or have sharper, more defined lines to look like much more than a blob on a pontiac hood.
This hood has a smaller cowl, which I like, but has the center ridge which I'm non thrilled about, but it's hard to tell what shape it really is from those pics, they're sort of taken too close and from angles that it's hard to tell what the real lines are like. In my case a little bit of extra clearance for the engine is OK (I'll use it if I have it but don't _need_ it), but that's not why I'm looking for an aftermarket hood, it's to specifically better manage airflow which noone seems to get (or if they do they do not understand how to accomplish it), so I'm looking for specific shapes that can be modified for what I want without becoming too obnoxious by the time I'm done with it.

Ok do you have any pics of this hood from the inside? Does it give you more room for carb air cleaner? O, and where can I got one? this is kinda the same style that I was gonna fabricate for mine. I wanted to leave the vents in it.

Closest thing around, is FYRCHKN's home-grown cut & welded steel hood.

Sorry no pics. I never bothered to Photoshop a bottom side view, of the hood that nobody makes. You can only get it from my computer....

That is the same idea I had for mine. I was gonna make it myself. but I am wondering about the cross members on the hood. I need the room for carb and air cleaner and I am worried about cutting the supports on the hood. I also planed on making the vents in the front active. I guess I could photoshop the back side of one if I could get a good pic of the back side of the hood. I am pretty good with photoshop.

Thats the color that I am gonna go with GM Red Jewel Tintcoat. But from what I understand it is a 3 part paint. a base a mid and a clear. Is there a paint code for it?

Anyone got pics of paint code 9535?? My 89 IROC is or used to be this color but I'd like to see what it looked like new. Flame or Victory Red.

Re: What Color to Paint!
My car is the factory color, Maui Blue Metallic I believe (Code 23?). It is a 1990 model, but it was repainted in 1992 after a hail storm (presumably there was no paintless dent repair back in the day...) otherwise it would still be wearing factory paint.

Love it to death, and had it 11 years, second owner, since I was 15. I would absolutely love to strip the car down to metal and rebuild the entire thing with the same paint job, just a lot deeper.

Re: What Color to Paint!
I just finished up my mettalic orange on the 87. Turned out pretty well...was going to put white stripes but I decided against it. Now its on to tinting windows and deciding if i want to alter the wheels or not. As far as body alterations...I did the hood, new fenders, put a 2" lift on the back and stuck some fairly large tires under the back. Gives it a pretty good look I think

Re: What Color to Paint!
Hey, my names taylor, im 17 and i recently just bought my first car, a blue 1992 rs. the funny thing is, i bought the car for cheap and was planning on selling it for alot more than my purchase price, but i ended up falling in love with it and im working my butt off to restore it. there was tons of rust on the hood and roof, so ive sanded and cleaned all that off, and its primed and ready for paint. the only problem is is that ive been stressing over what color i should paint it. so i have a very serious question, and im just looking for honest opinions and unbiased male opinions, i had a fun thought in my mind, what about painting it pink! and i know some people might not think its a good idea at all, but just open your mind for one second and picture it. me and my dad talked about doing it two-toned, pink on the bottom half and black on the top? with dark tint and maybe even pink and black rims. or even all black with pink rally stripes? i just want to hear some feedback on how you guys think that would look. ive been looking for a photo editor to get a visual but im not too good at that kind of stuff. i know it sounds outrageous but this is my first car and i have worked so hard on trying to bring this car back to life, so i want the car to be mine and original. ive never seen a pink 92 camaro yet so i think it would be pretty awesome
what do yall think?
what do yall think? Re: What Color to Paint!
Hey Taylor, just wanted to maybe comment on your color choices. I don't think its too bad depending on what shade of pink, I mean I don't think that a hot pink would be the best color, but perhaps something of a purple/pink (dark pink) I have a good shade that I think would be pretty bad%$!, lol it's my fingernail polish and my husband pointed it out while reading your thought. But I seen a shirt once that said only real men where pink, and I think a camaro can pull off pink

Re: What Color to Paint!
I have a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 that I bought new in 2005. I was originally trying to get an "Orange Blast" one, but after learning that the 2004 had 70,000 mile warranties and the 2005 had only a 36,000 mile warranty, I decided on a blue one.
I've never heard of anyone else (dealers) offering this, but Dodge offers ANY late model factory paint colors in spray can form. They are identical to the factory colors, just offered in simple spray can form. I bought 2 when I painted my side mirrors body color. It worked great!
Anyway, I ordered a can of Orange Blast (code PVK) from my dealer today. I'm basically just going to be testing at this point (spraying a small panel) to see roughly how I like the color in different lights. It may very well be the color I paint my 91Z28.
[edit]
Teaser pic of the color:

I like the GM orange offerings ok, but honestly, they're all too dark for me. They always look clay-red orange in low light.

I am in the process of fixing rust holes on mine. Decided to paint the whole thing primer black until I can get a paint job. I used a Duplicolor primer called Hot Rod Black. I'm kinda digging it. Call me lame but I'm thinking of just slapping some clear coat over the Hot Rod Black primer and leaving it at that.

I've got a white 91 formula and I have been looking around for a new color to paint it and nothing catches my eye like an electric blue. I'm leaning towards that with new black decals. Should look incredible.

I am about to have my TA painted and will need to know some more about it before I can proceed. I plan to paint white (could use suggestions) and use a red clear pearl over it. I guess thats how it works. I want a red reflection in the paint over the white. Any recommendations for paint colors types and methods would be greatly appreciated. Pictures before and after will then be posted.

It's a hardwood 2 or 3" cowl. I like the fact it follows the original body lines, and right now, below it sits a carbed motor, with a victor jr intake, 1" spacer, and 4150 carb - standard size open elements clears by about an inch at the forward edge of the aircleaner. Yeah, thats all because of the amount of slope on the front ends of firebirds.
It's 100% open underneeth to the back of the cowl. At somepoint, provided I hang onto the car I plan to make a nice sheet aluminum piece that will seal the aircleaner off to the cowl.

Just remember that if your going to a different color than what your car rolled off the assembly line with and spending the extra $$ to get the door jambs painted, the under hood area will still be the stock color. So unless you start with a black car, the under hood area will look funny. Been there, done that & hated opening the hood.

Here's an original copper/russet /85 z28... a one year color. I think there were only about 500 Copper z28 5-speeds. I made this web portfolio special for this forum, so you can see the car from many angles. Hope this helps.

you are lucky to have a rare iroc in my opinion that is rare. question for you, on your web site under the slide show (got under and in) on the last picture it shows you rebuilt the doorpanels, where did you buy that rubber piece that clips to the panel, mine could use new ones
