Re: What Color to Paint!

So i was thinking of getting a paintjob on my 92 RS and i was thinking a base of black with deep blue racing stripes. possibly a dark metallic grey base to go with my gun metal rims. any opinions??

Well my friend, thank you much! But I did use Google, but keep searching for 87 Camaro Dark Garnet Red. I should have expanded my search, or just shortened it. Anyway thanks for the help!!

Re: What Color to Paint!

Aw, I wondered where they put that on a car with no glove box. The car has been gutted to install a back half with wheel tubs, etc. But I still have all the rear plastic. Which side was the "locker" on?

Re: What Color to Paint!

Yes, I seen you were Belgium. Some of the finest firearms in the world come from there.

So you own all 20 camaros in the country? You are very knowledgeable on camaros, at least 3rd gen camaros.

This camaro belonged to a friend of mine. He planned to restore it but lost interest in it. I had been looking for a good solid car to make a drag car out of and decided to buy it from him. I have gutted the car and installed a S&W back half in it. It's at a guys body shop now getting the roll cage installed, rear fender openings stretched, etc. That's why the need for the paint codes. The car is in remarkably great shape and it's probably a shame to do to it what I have done. But over here, there isn't that much excitement for a third gen Camaro. It has a following, but the first gen gets the most attention seems like.

Re: What Color to Paint!

over here first gen are something exotic
I know like 3 or so. there are probably some more, but probably hiding in someones garage. you know, the kind of cars that some old silent dude is still having somewhere in his barn or garage covered with some sheets.

altough the same can be said about thirdgen camaro's and firebirds.
thirdgens arent that expensive in purchase over here.
but most 90% of them are V6s ( you will find more bansheenose birds then camaro's over here )
begin 2000 you still saw a couple of those cars around, but then it lessened.
most of those cars are now in hiding untill they are 25 years old.
the reason is that when they reach that age they are oldtimers, and you don't have to pay roadtaxes on it anymore yearly ( or a minimum of 31,5 euro )
else you pay like 700 euro tax yearly for a 2.8, 850 voor a 3.1, 1700 voor a 5.0 and 2000 euro tax for a 5.7L
( if its a pickup, its 130 euros a year )

at this moment nobody wants 1 of these cars.
to expensive to keep. specially if you know the local gm dealer ( who does Opel, saab, daewoo,....) doesn't know **** about those american cars, and dont want to work on it. one of only 3 US chevroletdealers in belgium ( BUGA) asks ridiculous prices to work on cars, because they know you cant go anywhere else. and they still don't know how our cars work.
to 1 guy with a 91 3.1 V6 they said he had a problem with the crankshaft sensor, and that why the car wouldn't start.....( not 1 thirdgen has that sensor )

ofcours a big difference between your country and mine is.
you have the oval boys, the bowtie guys, and the mopars and a couple of japcraps and eurotrash.
we have the american car guys ( we respect fords, mopars, and chevy's)
and then we have japguys
and then beemers, VW, MBs Opels, renaults, etc

but the american car drivers between eachother there is no fighting between them. more a form of respect.

anyway, I myself have a bordeaux WA9540 91 3.1 camaro and since this summer a white 91 firebird 3.1 V6. and I basicly search around my country for stuff I can use for my car. and sometimes in exchange help other people with their thirdgen F-body.

some items are pretty scarce around here.
wonder bar, bigger swaybars, irocZ hood, 16" wheels rooftop console, etc...
are very hard to find.
so those things have to come from the US for me.
costs me a fortune on shipping and taxes

Re: What Color to Paint!

Very interesting, thanks for the education on your situation. The bickering you see between the GM, Ford, Chrysler car nuts is mostly just banter and bragging. Some of the younger guys get a bit excited it seems, but the older guys like myself for the most part just enjoy the "art of car" so to speak. Actually, I like just about anything that someone has built or restored himself, don't care what make it is. We Americans tend to take these things for granted, when as a car nut we are very lucky for what we have available to us.

My personal preference is GM products, mainly Chevys. My son and I took his old 92 S10 and made it into a ProStreet sort of truck. We like to just drive it around to cruise-ins and he shows it in some local shows. It's just a fun ride. The best part for me, him and I did it together. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/255454...10-regular-cab

If I can ever be of assistance to you on GM parts, I have a good dealer here in the town where I live. Good Parts man that humors me most of the time. If it's still available and he can get it, I'd be glad to do the leg work and send it to you. As far as parts from salvage yards, most yard around here crush cars that are over 10 years old, so the old "junk yards" like when I grew up that kept everything for many years are long gone. But there is still a good aftermarket for the Third Gen.
Cheers

Re: What Color to Paint!

that pickup would be illegal here on so many levels.
no engine swap allowed, except with approval of GM ( where they put themselves responsible for what you do )
bigger tires on the rear then on the front while vehicle didnt arrive with that setup stock
a rolcage where there are bars in front of the front seats
read more about it here

Re: What Color to Paint!

difference is de colorcode,
the last 2 years, the colorcode for the F-body changed to 9540
instead of your 8748
I think there are more pearle tints in my paint, not sure.
I do know it looks deeper and lighter red dan the 8748 color.

2010 Dodge Surf Blue Pearl (Color Code PQD). Saw this color on a new Dodge Challenger. Base coat/clear coat applied by Maaco for $1390 in March 2010. This included all door/hatch jams and under hood. We prepped the body and removed all lights, mirrors & trim; then trailered the car to/from the paint shop. Excellent results by not relying on tape masking anywhere.

Reds are difficult for me. I dont know why. I have a '86 TA and the factory red was good but I want a red that really stands out. I really like the red you have, may try to copy.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with the Firebird style decklid wing. I prefer it over the omnipresent duck tail spoiler. That blue looks excellent on your RS! Did you leave the wing black?

Nice, it gives it an early 70's Trans Am SCCA look...Like the BOSS 302 Mustang, Challenger, and other cars of the era. I left my Firebird wing glass black, if I ever paint it I was going to go semi-gloss on it. For now I pulled it off and put back on the original '83 Z/28 duck tail, going to give that a try for a while to see which I prefer.

You are right on and those were my high school years! My 84 was an "SC" model, without the spoiler, but my son asked if we could install a "wing" cause all his friends with rice burners had them. We went to our local wrecking yard and found a Firebird wing for $50. I like that I'm the only Camaro around with a distinctive wing instead of the spoiler.

Lol! That's pretty much the same reason my car had one for the last 5 years...But, the wifey prefers the duck tail, so I'm giving it a try. Still have the wing in the garage, and this gives me a chance to go back and re-glass the studs in it and refinish the paint properly...so, we'll see!

I really like this one, the wheels, the color, its all perfect - though I would make the shaker hood significantly larger myself. Big enough to actually fit an air filter at least.

Oh, and a white and blue interior. That would be legendary.

Re: What Color to Paint!

That's perfect then.

I've never seen a while and blue interior, but I think it would look awesome with blue carpet and headliner, white around the cluster and sides of the console. With some white seats with blue accents and white interior trim. That, IMO, would be the chips and dip. Haha

It's a low mileage original IROC. The price is about right.

I like the Lamborghini "Giallo Orion" color.

Would look great on our cars.

Re: What Color to Paint!

It's funny you should say that, I was seriously considering going with the Giallo Orion color, but I figured the cost might be a little extreme for a first timer, so I ended up getting a gallon of the red that Mitsubishi uses on the '08 Evos.

Re: What Color to Paint!

I've always been partial to Sunset Metallic Orange, but I want to do it with a twist on my T/A. I've got a GTA clone, power bulge hood, Aero spoiler and T-tops.

My thought is this. Bottom of the car, sunset metallic orange, fade to black on the hood bulge. Fade to black on the A-pillar and B-pillar. Black Spoiler. No "clear" two-tone line, just a sunset, fading to night.

Then, because it would be cool. An autobot symbol stenciled in where the Firebird logo is on the B-pilar.

Re: What Color to Paint!

anyone ever thought about just updating there paint color.
I meand, if you car was gold on the borrom en black on top, use a newwer shinnier gold/orange on the bottom and a new/deeper black on top.
these things can do wonders to a car.
