...Just take the hood bolts out and sit it sideways on top of the hinge.
Notice the hinge and hood strut are still stock. The car wasn't modified for side-opening.

He probably took the hood strut off the other side, folded the hinge flat and laid the hood down on the passenger side. The Driver's side hood hinge is basically just a "hood prop".
well as heavy as the camaro hoods are, assuming that is fiberglass it would work. the metal would not. still to much work for something like that.....but if you say so.

WHY would you even want your hood to open sideways (Vent it up like a foot)? The whole idea of opening the hood is to gain access it.. Opening it up sideways like that means you can't even get access to anything on the passenger side.. No AC, no battery.. no nothing..
I don't know.. Definately not my thing.

I'm going with the notion that he took out the pass strut, loosed the front bolts on both hinges and removed the rear bolts.. and thats it I could respect it as a show piece if it actually opened as in like it was somewhere close to 90 degrees, but thats just sloppy Supreme Member

eh, the car itself isn't my taste, but to each his own. Never really had a problem with side opening hoods, nor forward opening hoods, or back opening hoods, there's a time where you'll want to have all of the above.
One of the little sleds weve got lying around is a 1950 buick super eight. Car came from the factory with side hood pops, really nice, really neat. There are levers under both the driver and passenger side of the car, in the middle of the firewall is a hood prop, about 1 foot - 1.5 feet long.
Here's the idea:
Pull the latch on the driver side
Hood will pop up on drivers side (just like it would from the front on our cars)
The other side of the hood is still connected to the latch, however the latch is hinged
Then, you life up on the hood, the hood will go over towards the passenger side of the car
you then reach up on the firewall, grab the prop, and place it into the notch on the rear of the hood, and wvalla, hood stays open, to the side, you can now work on this side of the engine.
You simply close the hood, and pop the other side and reverse the direction, and you'll have access to the side of the engine that has the oil filter setup, and spark plugs, essentailly every accessory on the straight 8 minus the generator (which is on the driver side).
Another nice feature, when you want the hood off the car, you pull both handles, it'll pop up both sides of the hood, then guy number one lifts up on the drivers side, guy number two lifts on pass. side, you carry the hood away from the car, and set on shop floor, ground, garage floor, etc. Then you have access to either side, re-installing hte hood simply means, lift up on side on, sit in place, press it down, then let the other side fall, no hood re-alligning necessary. fun eh? And the weight really isn't an issue, also, if you think a 1980s firebird / maro hood would be heavy, trust me, you need 1950's steel.
And for forward opening hoods, i might be destroying a nice secret that i'm sure someone else out there knows of except me, but, some 1980's buicks came with forward opening hoods. There's no need to get yourself some special kit, simply ****** the brackets from them, and bolt it in, the hood pops in the front like factory, you unlatch it (with the factory latch) when you pull up on the hood from the front, it lifts up away from the car, then you simply pull the hood forward open. Gonna be doing that to my firebird soon enough. And unlike our known to fail gas struts, this setup utalizes old school springs, sticking with the addage, keep it simple stupid.

i'd kind of like to keep the gas struts...seeing as how i'm using a fiberglass hood. i tried tracking down those parts a few years back with little luck. not to many of those kept around the yards these days...
