hood bolts, which ones are them ??

on my 82 my bolt holes in my hood they are fubar, which bolts are supposed to be used for this, threading into hood itself ?

the hood was unbolted form the car for a long time when it was in wyoming after the original 305 blew up and another oen was stuck in it that turned out to be junk and had water in it, the bolts were missing and not with the car so i picked a few out of some hardware i had left form an 84 s/e i parted, well they were identical to or were top of fender mounting bolts, same as what holds bottom of the hinge assemblies to the car, well they didnt go in right and nothing else has either,

are top hinge bolts unique or something ??

just bolts only or body clip nuts too, or ??

i guess the holes are too damaged now, probably,

car will end up with hood pin kit and no hinges at this rate,

thanks

I'd say offhand that those hoods are pretty cheap at the local junkyard. And, you could even probably find the matching color w/ a bit of effort (if indeed your hood mounting bolt holes are all stripped out, which they sound to be).

If my memory serves me correctly, the bolts in question are metric, fine thread w/ a built-in washer... but, don't quote me on it.

Good luck.

Sounds right, but I have a factory 'glass hood. Steel might be different.

yeh but on these cars theres the bigger washer head ones and then theres the smaller washer head ones, they are both 10mm head and everything and appear to be both fine thread, but nothing goes in the hood bolt holes correctly

my hood is the 82 style off center ram air hoodo, i dont think i can go to any yard anywhere and manage to find a 1970 plum crazy purple one lol! or even one that is the cars orignial color: silver blue metallic, i have never seen any other thirdgen either color in my life, the factory color of the car is a really light smurf baby pastel blue

actually i have never seen any third gen anything in a yard cept for once i fund a 84 or so camaro, but it was stripped, everyone around here takes their cars straight to shredder in peoria, not to junk yards, junkyards wont keep these old things, the money is all n the 10 years old and younger cars they tell me and so thats all they want to get and keep hold of,.

anything over 10 years old is doomed around here, no parting, no anything, to shredder as is,

anyone knbow if the hood bolt holes are directly threaded or use any clip body nuts or ?

probably so but i dunno, i never checked on the 83 z28 i had to see what hardware held that hood to the hinges

hum.,.

this may seem like petty stuff to post about but its important when you have a car that has been needing disassembled and cleaned up and inspected and needing some parts replaced and other work done to it to make it nice again, cant explain it any other way

thanks

i looked again and because of the repaint that the car recieved in the past theres outline of larger washer heads on the upper hood hinges, so apparently upper hood bolts are the larger washer head ones,

maybe they are not the same threads or diameter of bolts as the fender bolts and lower hinge bolts ?? or ?
