New Body Kit for 82-92 F-Bodies
I just got the Jan. 05 issue of Car Craft and there is an article that mentions a new body kit for the 82-92 F-bodies. It's made by Gale Banks, the same guy that builds and sells turbo crate motors, turbo kits, etc. It's supposedly improves aerodynamics and includes a package of fenders, panels, and a spoiler. The kit is supposed to come out in January. I couldn't find out any info on their website, though (www.bankspower.com)
The article includes one picture of a white Firebird with the kit on it, and I must say it actually looks pretty good, even though I'm not really a fan of body kits.
Just figured I'd let everyone know about this.

Article reads:
If there is a quick way around the planet, Gale Banks is sure to find it. One of the original tuner vehicle builders in the early '80s, Banks has turned his attention back to the '82-'92 F-body Camaros and Firebirds. And this time he's into upgrading their looks as well.
Banks' new F-body kit is more than just a pretty exterior package. Using aerodynamic lessons learned from his Bonneville record-setting 240-mph Firebird, he has desgined a package of panels, fenders, and spoilers that not only update the looks of these machines, but actually provides aerodynamic improvement. The most elaborate of the panels, the rear deck wing, provides downforce and cosmetic enhancement. Up front, grilles embeded in the hood vent air for better cooling, less lift, and a performance look.
Banks' new aero package for GM F-bodies is set to debut in January. For more information and updates, visit www.bankspower.com.

The rear spoiler almost looks like an aluminum piece maybe kind of a pro street, drag style wing

Not happenin
***** lookin spoiler extended nose and side groud fx that just look BULKY and oversized and a hood that serves no functional value (maybe heat extraction) except that its not stock and flows with the lines of the car somewhat well...not worth the price that im sure banks will charge for it
im guessing the entire kit around 1100-1300 bucks
Oh and i did see it in the magazine not just that blurry pic
not my cup of tea but thats just me dont get all grippey if you disagree with me
i might change my tune if i saw it a better pic ....in the actual pic it looks like the front end is photoshopped the shadow by the fog lights looks carbon fiberish and the foglights dont look right in the pic

moot point
"Matt-
Thanks for your inquiry. Unfortunately, a Car Craft reporter
misinterpreted a comment he heard at Banks. We're not producing such
panels at this time. The idea is simply under consideration. However,
calls like yours give us an indication of the interest in such
panels. If production of such panels becomes a reality, that news
will be posted on our website.
We regret the confusion the Car Craft piece has caused, but again,
thanks for your interest.

The more I look at the blurry pic the more it seems kinda odd. I'll save my official opinion on the kit for a clear pic. Guess it doesn't matter though since they aren't making it. Thanks for getting the info Matthew91-Z28.

Hey, I'm new to the site. Finally found you guys (lol) just kidding. I haven't been able to find much for 3rd gen communities...
I dunno, I like the body kit, but I'm trying to make my bird a little different anyways. I haven't seen much out there for body kits, so its at least a step in the right direction.

This just begs the question though, if its all a mistake and they are not going to sell this, then where did the car in the carcraft pic come from??
Obviously they made it, so they have the r & d finished as well as the tooling to make the hood, panels, etc.
Why take so much effort to design all those parts and just build one kit from it?? Unless its for bragging rights....
Any thoughts?

And why take so much effort? To bring attention to the car. You look at the car and you look at Banks' other products while you're there.

Yeah too bad they are not producing it. There is definitely a market for something like this. But then again, you don't know how much effort it took them to make one kit. Maybe it is not too profitable

I'm still trying to get some pics of the Concept Camaro kit. I've emailed Banks a bunch of time but never got a reply (come to think of it, Banks is probably the worst company I know of as far as replying to email). I really want to see what the wing looks like (like a closeup).

I LIKE IT ALOT!!!!!
I think it is about time that the tirdgen saw some insight on what CAN be done if someone just gave'm a chance. Better then some of those other kits out there. However if and when they do produce the kit. I'mma buy it just from something new and different.

The nose is very similar to the OTP nose out of Germany. I have been trying to get my hands on one for a while. Can't seem to get a blasted shipping quote for the Germans!

redraif, i was going to say the same thing! It's similar, but I think the OTP nose is better looking. I like the idea of the large grill openings.... it reminds me of the 2nd gen T/As. It also gives more options for routing cold air for the intake, radiator, or even an intercooler :-)

Kinda looks like the 4th gens that have been used in the "IROC" circuit with the nascar driver. i.e. the wide low front end. Not bad. I got to say for those who want it get it. For those who don't like it.... this is still good news for you. Who wants to see 1000 of the same cars at a third gen show someday? Lets have our originals look unique! Variety is the spice of life. <old stupid saying but it works here.

The body kit here looks horrible IMHO.
These cars are awesome looking the way they are and isn't the goal of all of what we do to our cars is to make them faster? I don't see how adding 200lbs or crap to it is going to accomplish this.

I think that kit could be cool it the car were a diff color to show off the body lines better. also I would use a RAI hood instead of his hood. prob throw on some diff wheels too. if I could build one with those changes I would buy it.
