What the heck are you doing to that car? You got your car painted, then it was backed into, then you went thru the "fur" stage now your hood's tweaked... Also, your front end is chipping at the corners.

Most people drive a car and beat on it and then restore it, you "restore" it and then beat on it!

well it looks like you should head over to speedway salvage in granite city and pick up a new one .....i know they have many many thirdgen firebirds there just go and look and thier parts are really cheap ....

heres their phone number and address

Speedway Salvage
(618) 876-3366
520 Madison Ave
Madison, IL 62060

heres a thread i started in the midwest board of pics of some of the cars they had there

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=266665

but they change quite often so you need to call or just go over there it costs a dollar to get in and then you bring your own tools with you and take off the parts yourself....

damn that bites. Honestly, I would just get another stock hood. You can get one from a junkyard that is in good shape, just need repainted for pretty cheap, and you'll need to have it repainted it anyways.

Your car looks good in that pic bud. Sorry to hear about the hood...

but you really should figure out what the underlying problem was... just getting another hood will be a bandaid to the real issue. Maybe you need a new hood latch or something... gotta get that checked out.

Sounds like the car has had enough of you destroying it and is trying to commit suicide. Best of luck to the car. It can only go to a better place. :lala:

Get a factory power-bulge hood. Thats the only hood I really like on 3rdgen Firebirds much, and they are cheap and plentiful (around here anyway).

Easy to find a good one at a junkyard, then you just have to paint it (which you'd be doing to aftermarket hoods anyway). I see them all the time, and theres always a few in pretty good shape. Usually just need paint.

The fit would probably be noticably better than most aftermarket 'glass hoods anyway.

This is Zepher's power bulge hood. IMO, its the best looking hood for any 3rdgen Firebird.

Sounds like you just need to sell the car and use that "$6,000" and buy a bus pass.

Once again you cease to amaze me on your inability to search for the most commonly discussed topics. When will you learn. Search for hoods. Do it now. Just try it and see what happens.

You know, my brother called me earlier and said:
"Shane started another thread, this time he didnt close the hood on his car before he got onto I-70, check it out"

So, as most of us would, I get online and search for shanes username. Guess what I find?

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sea...der=descending

Check it out, almost every thread he has started is locked. This has to be some kind of record.

wow.. I'm surprised this happened... when you pull the latch and the hood doesnt pop up you have to get it to open and then close it so it re-latches... most people figure this out the easy way

What was the point of this thread anyways?

i don't see what the problem is.. **** brakes, figure out what caused it to brake and fix. problem solved. if your having some kinda trouble fixing it or figuring out what caused it to brake, do a search, i highly doubt your the first with your troubles.. if nothing is found in search then post.

follow this and i'm willing to bet most of your getting flamed on will stop and so will all your locked posts..

Anyone with any form of body working skills should be able to put it back to near mint condition. When my dad and i totalled the Viper, the hood was bent to a 90* angle. The guy at the body shop hammered it out so well that you couldn't even tell anything had happened to it unless you looked at the back side (the side that faces the engine).

i called around and it seems for a hood, mounts and hinges, its $50... so thats what i'm getting...

I did latch it down, the thing that amazes me is that one bar, should have stoppedit from moving first correct? if the locking mechanism came undone that other thing should have cought it....

But now i know why there is an arch in the hood by the windshield, not just for the windshiel itself, so you can see and pull over to the emergency lane....

There is a guyi know selling a 86 Iroc for $1k, with a 15k miles old 350, headers and all... I'm seriously thinking about getting another for my power and just keep this one stock.

But my bad luck just keeps gettign worse guys...

nah the hood is fugged up d00ds, there is no way to repair it, if you saw it in real life there is no way....

I might as well wait until get some bookoo bucks that way i can get more for my money....

I goto the junkyard here habitually, its $1 to get in and parts are cheap, and they have a very good thirdgen selection so....

I like the power bulge tho...

if i sell the vents, how much you got to pay for them?

Enough to buy some welding rods for you to close it permanently. Maybe the super-duper strong glue you got at Home Depot would work well enough to prevent this from happening again.

Part of me would liked to have seen the windshield break as well. That would have been a very mispelled thread.

There's an idea. Weld it closed so no more damage will be done.

Shane, if you have $1k to go buy the '86 turdgen, spend it on a FWD car. Escort, Taurus, etc. and save your car the winter. Please.
