fiberglass hood question

I have an 84 Z28 and am putting a gm glass hood ( a 82 I think )on and will be cutting a hole for the air cleaner and then a cowl scoop. There is two ribs that would have run just outside the aircleaner. The center portion looks like it is removeable and mine doesn't have anything. Can anyone help me out. A pic would be outstanding.
thanks

Thats because the factory hoods are no ordinary fiberglass i belive they call it CNC.Same type of glass materials found on fiero hoods and trunk lids. You need a special type of bond agent when molding to it.I did a patch once that turned out nice but I took a screw driver and rippled at the hood until all the "fethers" were poping up,i then used long strand fiber glass filler.Hours and hours of work get the aftermarket

Close, it's SMC or sheet molded compound.

I just used fiberglass resin and a little bit of mat to attach an aftermarket fiberglass cowl, although the cowl is severely modded.. Lengthend 12"s and raised 1.5"s... It fits nicely..

We cut a hole in ours and bolted on a mustang scoop. No molding involved and it fit perfectly....

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I am planning on bolting mine one. There is serveral cars in my area that have done it and used quality fasteners and it looks pretty good and easy. My original question was about the removeable stringers on the underside of a GM fiberglass hood. I just wanted to know what the things looked like as I might make something up to add a little strength in the area that the hole will be cut.

Don't worry about it, we cut the hole and didn't do anything else. It's been like that for three years no with no issues...
