ls1 dash, carbed, need to get speedo working?
from what i gatheri need:
91-92 camaro A4 VSS (any engine)
correct driven, and drive gears for my ring and pinion combo
and the yellow box (is this the buffer box?)
i have NO ecm, and will be using a 97 camaro cluster. ive search so much my eyes hurt, tho i have found some useful info.
if anyone can get me a start, or tell me it aint gonna work..... it would be appreciated.
thanks.

that's a pretty standard list, basically exactly what's needed. Same itme, you can probably look @ 86+ firebirds also, as those cars got the electric speed sensor well before the camaro.

with this parts list will the 97 camaro cluster speedo work, WITHOUT a dakota digital box, since im feeding it a signal it understands from the buffer box? assuming this "yellow box under the dash" and the "buffer box" are the same piece?
thanks mang.

and at the parts house, i checked. there are FOUR different VSS for firebirds and TWO for camaros.
which one do i need, or will any of them work?
no cruise, no ecm.
i just need a signal so the speedo reads correctly.
id have to take a wild guess and say some of these VSS were for cruise control equipped cars?

ive searched this site for vss and rpo codes for hours now and no luck.
i scored a 87 bird " 4 out buffer box" and a tailshaft with the large hole for the speed sensor. im still in need of a tailshaft moutned VSS. is there a special RPO code i should get for the 4 out buffer box, or does it matter?
thanks

iirc all the vss's will put out the same signal....4000 ppm... you need to get 4000 ppm to the cluster.... so assuming that is correct... you would not need the buffer box since you are not running cruise or an ecm... the buffer box converts the signal as 4000 ppm in... 1 out at 4000 ppm to speedo, 2 out at 2000 ppm for cruise and ecm inputs...
so it would be safe to assume that just the vss that fits in the tailshaft you have and then to your speedo input... you will have 2 wires on the vss... one is signal and one is ground... yellow would be the hi input and purple the low which is ground. if anything you might need a resister between them as the schematics show one inside the buffer box... or just use the box and connect the pink/black on box to your gauges fuse... yellow and purple from vss to same on box and brown pin c (400 ppm) to speedo.. and not connect the 2000 ppm brown pin f and red pin e and you should be set

i emailed you from another topic, before i read this, but its making more sense now. the brown goes to the speedo? i thought the brown went to the ECM?
black/white stripe is GRD
pink/blk stripe is 12 ign (gauge power)
then brown to speedo wire on 4th gen cluster?
RED and GREEN/black stripe are unused assuming i dont have cruise or an ECM. sound right? LOL
preciate it!

pin C on both the connectors i have here is a green/blk sripe wire
i have two of the and they are both different.
#1
has
A. blk/wht stripe
B. empty
C. grn/blk stripe
D. empty
E. dark pink, maybe red at one point?
F. brown
G. empty
H. pink/blk stripe
#2 is ecactly the same, tho E and F have brown wires, whereas #1 has the dark pink, maybe red wire.
are there different connectors i should look for, or can i play with what i have.
this has got to the worst headache ive had. ive stored to much info.

if the connector you have plugs in.. just hook up according to the pins.. dont worry about the color on the conector..the pins are correct though... so use the pin c color you have to your speedo and you should be set
