Where can I buy jute padding????

I know that this is probably a stupid question, but where can I find some decent jute padding for the interior? Would walmart carry something like that? I am just thinking that if I go to an upholstery shop they will charge me top dollar for some basic padding. Any help on this would be great.

Was doing some more searches on the internet and I'm not sure that jute is what I want, or at least the pictures that they are showing me of jute carpet is not what I want. This is what I am looking for....

You can find it at most upholstery shops and some carpet shops. It is anywhere from $25.00 to $50.00 for a 10 yard roll that is about 4 to 4 1/2 feet wide and about 30 feet long.

I bought several yards from Home Depot in CT several years ago. You may try that as well.

does this have any sound deadening properties? i'm sure it's no where near the dynamat type product in effectiveness.

No that stuff is basically the same stuff as what is in the car originally only not as thick. When I re-did the carpet in my car recently I got some of that stuff from a friend who runs and upholstery shop and used two layers of it using the original as a pattern to cut it out.

In flooring.. it's just used as carpet pad... nothing else.

Does it help.. sure, tissue paper would too if you laid it on thick enough. It's the same as the junk under the hood.. it dampens high frequencies (sp?) and a little noise so you don't hear the belt and out of adjustment rockers chattering away.

Dynamat works on the basis of adding density directly to the metal. More density, less likely it will vibrate/resonate. Less of that, less noise.

Just my nonsense ramble though...

Jute carpet pad is the same crap just made different from upholstery jute. The carpet pad jute is compressed with a slight binding agent added to make it durable to foot traffic. The upholstery stuff is more of a.... tumbled (for lack of actual term) product. It's kind of like loose fill (pulls apart like cotton batting)

Looks the same but isn't....
