Hood Pins - Cutting the Hood?

Hey, just a question for you guys with fibreglass hoods, and are using hood pins.

I got a set of hoodpins for my b-day a few days ago, and I have a factory fibreglass hood that I want to install them onto.

My question is... is there a 'right' and 'wrong' way to drill out a fibreglass hood, so that it doesn't fray or crack around the hole when you are drilling it? I haven't done this before, so its a new thing for me. I really don't want to crack this hood, and I want to do it right.

when i put mine on i just put some masking tape over both sides i was drilling. then used a small starter bit (1/16") to get the hole exactly where i wanted it and just kept steping up the bits 1/16", 5/32", 1/4", 3/8" and the last drill I used was just under 1/2" so I could use a deburing bit to take out the last little bit and clean up the edges. ended up with a nice 1/2" hole

it may have taken a little longer then some people would have liked but i really didn't want to mess up my 2 hour fresh out of the box cervins hood. it still bothers me to start cutting/drilling into new parts...

Also should note-use a dull drill bit. A new sharp one will grab onto the glass and want to take out chunks!! Drill on a fast rpm setting as well and use light pressure. All these things will keep the bit from grabbing onto your hood and tearing it to peices.
