did headlight housing change during the "facelift" in -90?

Was just looking at some pics of a -92 Trans Am and noticed that the plastic(?) headlight cover looked differnt. Smoother... and better alignments from that on my 89 model. Or atlest so it appeared on the pic.

I'm aware of the "facelift" the car went through in 1990 but did not know about this. Also I noticed the rear lights were vertically divided into groups. Wonder what it looks like with the lights on... is it the same still? Thought it was just the front and skirts around the car that changed.... did something else also?

Just got me thinking if it's worth swapping some of this... but definately not the front! I like the older version better

yep, the housing is a little different. it allowed them to use a smaller headlight bulb up front.

Hi!
Well, the 1990 Birds stayed the same as the year before it!
However, the model 1991 Birds that you are probably talking about, were released mid year 1990, as 1991s, and the nose came up even all the way across the front hoodline of the car!
The turnsignal was moved down, like the 1979-1981 style birds, so the headlight cover lost the front 1-1 1/2 inch of the face was the light goes up. It is just flat, and the housing is even different, with the small headlight, as the eariler post states.
One other thing, the drivers side of the closed headlight cover, has Pontiac embossed into it!

Hope this helps,

George

There were a couple of changes for the 91-92. The bumper brace and reinforcement are also different. The actual headlight assembly is the same but the headlights are smaller along with smaller bezels. The connectors to the headlights changed due to this.

Are you planning a swap? One thing to do to fix the headlight problem is just trim the bottom part of the bezel so that it fits with a 91-92 bumper. This allows you to keep the old headlights, which i think look better due to being a decent size.
