Power Mirror Switch Cleaning
I thought I would pass on a tip I learned a few days ago regarding the outside rear view mirrors on my 1989 GTA. These are the ones, which are electronically controlled by the four-way switch on the consol between the two power window switches. For several years the electric motors only worked sporadically to adjust these mirrors from side to side and up and down. So I assumed the problem must be with the switch, as the little use these motors get would not have worn them out. So I removed the switch from the consol and disassembled it, cleaned the posts in the upper portion of the plastic housing with a Q-tip swap and rubbing alcohol. Then I took the little brass metal clips attached to the wires going into the bottom portion of the plastic switch housing out of the plastic housing and gave the clips a very light sanding with a very mild file and a similar alcohol cleaning. Then reassembled the switch and consol and now the control works fine and the electric motors move the mirrors around perfectly.
