I had the dash out on my '84 T/A last fall. Fixed a lot of rattles and I found some screws that weren't tightened from the factory. 1980's build quality!

Whats that metal box behind the map pocket on the dash? Did your car come with the factory amp and sub-woofers in the quarter panels? Thats a pretty rare option.

Yes it has the factory amp but i havent seen any subwoofers. On the dash it has a gain control **** with a button next to it. When i bought the car it already had a aftermarket radio installed and he had disconnected the factory amp.

Man my car must have been a blast from the factory. It was ordered with 305 TPI, 5speed,TTops,WS6 package,Performance sound package,no power anything bare bones but with the deluxe interior. Also my car was originally silver not black which i dont see very many silver thirdgen formulas.

Are you painting anything such as the arm rests/door panels or replacing them with black ones? I'm curious how long the paint last if it is in fact painted.

My T/A also has the factory radio w/subwoofers. The subs are POS "Bostwick's" on a 5" size. The amp and slider only seem to work with the stock head unit. When I put in an aftermarket head unit, using the same wires, the subs would not work.

I want to replace the subs with some new ones, but cant find any on a 5" platform.

Jim.

There was another thread about the amp and subs. They said they are actually 5 1/4 inch and not 5. You can find the 5 1/4 inch just about anywhere. Heres the link to the other thread where they were talking about it. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=264126

I used Dupli Color Vinyl and Fabric Dye on the door panels and, center console door, map pocket and the carpet. Then i used Krylon Fusion for all the plastic pieces in the interior. And i used bottle of wax & grease remover to prep everything. Word of advice dont try to dye the shifter boot it didnt work worth a crap.

The carpet looks good you just have to do several coats and let it dry in between to let it soak in. Also i recommend getting one of the little nail brushes they sale at auto parts stores and using that to brush the carpet while you are dying it. Spray a lil brush a lil. I didnt brush it while i was doing it and it got stiff.

Dont know its only been a week still looks good. The way i figured is it was a pita to do the whole interior at once. But if one piece has a problem its an easy fix to do just one thing.

alright, no one else has asked, so I guess I might not be paying attention.

Why are all of your panels so rich and glossy. I have used the duplicolor on another car, and it did not come out like that.

I see you used the krylon on the plastic pieces. Did that come out that rich from the paint, or do you have it heavily armor alled, or whatever.

The reason I asked, is that I have just aquired a black interrior parts car, but they are all covered in carpet. I don't know why. I would rather just dye my current panels black, if they would look as good as yours.

on a side note, anyone ever think about sanding the grain off of the panels. I did it on an extra piece I have, and I think it would look cool. Kinda like the fiberglassed look.

Well the 6speed console is about half the height of the 3rd gen console so it made my stock shifter a couple of inches longer. I plan to get a short throw shifter and one of the short sticks and then cut it down a little bit. Then it will be perfect.

If you used the Duplicolor on the carpet, it will wear back to it's original color within a few months. Mine looks like butt right now. I'll be switching to new black carpet this spring when I take everything back out to paint her...

I had the exact same problem and am solving it the exact same way. New black carpet is on its way. That Duplicolor stuff seems to work great on everything else, though.

The carpet is only temporary i planed on buying new carpet this summer. Plus in the next couple of months i will porbably not even drive 500 miles in it. Its just my weekend car and it stays in the garage. I could see it becoming a problem in a daily driver.

f355: Do you have power locks or manual locks? I noticed you have manual windows with the GTA-style doorpanels, which is what I'm doing as well. I also have manual locks, but I haven't seen block-off plates for the power lock switches (or door trim without the holes for the lock switches).

Can you snap a pic of your door trim for me? Is there just a blank piece of plastic that snaps-in where the power lock buttons would be?

Yes I did- from thirdgenranch (LFN AT U on the boards). They have little pockets at the bottom but I'm going to have to remove them because they'll interfere with the window crank. (They were off a power-window car and I'm going to have to cut the holes for the cranks)

The first time those panels came up on ebay i posted a bid and they went up to like $250 dollars and some one didnt pay so he relisted them and by that time i had already redid my panels so i didnt bother. Those panels looked really good in the picture he had.

Axle/Gears: 9-Bolt, 3.45
Thanks for the pics- that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Actually, he had 2 sets of black GTA panels. I was watching that first auction where they went to $250 too. Those panels didn't have the map pockets and were actually missing the little plastic covers for the screw holes. Mine were auctioned off the next week. They were mint, included all the screw covers (and the brackets to convert from regular door panels) and for some reason only went to $103.

That turned out nice. You do need a short shifter tho that thing looks like it belongs on a s10.
