Clearance Problem

I have a 84 Z with a high rise intake, With my carb on and my air filter I do not have enough clearance to close my hood. Do any of you guys have a suggestion on how I may correct this problem, other than getting a new intake or getting a cowl hood?

Drop base air filter? If you're using a carb spacer, take it out.

If those don't work, then just take out your engine mounts and the engine should sit down an inch or two (KIDDING DON'T DO THIS). But if the different air filter doesn't work, then you're stuck having to buy a different intake or a new hood I'd imagine.

you could do like i did and buy some longer bolts and some washers to shim up the back end of the hood. itll give you a little more room under there, clears my engine just enough to work. i kinda like the look too, pretty aggressive.

This is kind of radical but it worked for me. I ended up cutting out 2 of the braces on my hood in order to make it clear. The hood is still fine and really strong except for that one spot which of course, as long as no one throws a rock on it or sits on it will be ok. Also, if you haven't already, check into a drop base filter, mine works pretty damn good...
