4thgen door pannel?

anyone with them or experience around them know if the top portion snaps onto our doors in a similar matter?

i'm trying to find a way to attach a custom door pannel to our doors without the use of the black plastic factory piece that runs across the top. open to any and all suggestions to make it as clean as possible.

I have been looking at the door panels from other cars trying to get ideas for a custom panel. What I have noticed is that some of the other cars have a hard plastic piece at the top of the panel to attach to the door, but the material that covers the panel covers the plastic piece also, instead of the way ours are made. Why could someone not do the same with a 3rd Gen door panel? Just cover the plastic piece when you cover the panel.

you very well could except you'd have to do some work to it. for example to get my desired effect much like a 4thgen i'd have to fiberglass over the piece making the pannel and black trim unit as one. this is alot of work if the 4thgen pannels attach very similar as it would be easier to cut up a 4thgen pannel and mold where needed rather then old a complete door and on top of it mold the upper pannel to look as one...

if gm didn't charge $100 a side for the black pannel piece it wouldn't bother me and i'd try glassing over it to smooth the look. at that price though i hate to touch them.

All the pics I've seen on this site show that they pretty much hang just like a third gen. The only problem is the window sweep that keeps the glass from rattling when the glas is down. The rear corner at the top of the door may need to be trimmed for clearance and obviously the front where it meets the dash unless you're swapping to a 4th gen dash as well. One guy on tis site posted several pics of his swap showing where he had to work the panel to make it fit.
