Does anybody have some? I was reading a few posts and somebody said they used the needles from a 97 explorer...I was just going to buy that kit, yea I know its expensive, but then I heard it won't work with pre-90 camaro needles. So I have basically two questions

A: Has anybody gotten their pre-90 camaro needles to lit up by modifying the cluster?

B: Is it really possible to find clear needles from another car that would work, and then I could use that kit.

Thanks, I have a reverse indiglo gauge cluster I just got. My car currently has a 115 cluster and I'm putting in a 145 cluster with reverse overlays. I wanted to light up my needles too. I also don't understand something. Assuming I find clear lexan needles that I can take the paint off of the back or whatever, can I paint the front to any color I wanted? It would be sweet to have the needles light up blue at night...but be a solid red in the daytime. Can anybody at all help me out? Yes I have done searches.

82-89 needles don't light up because they are soild white plastic. They & the gauge faces are lit by reflective lighting from the cluster bulbs.

I would imagine other needles would fit the pre 90s gauge but, w/o having tried, I won't say for sure.

I do know the the 3rdgen clear needles are painted on the backside of the needle. They are somewhat prisim shaped so the entire needle appears to be whatever color paint is used.

 

AH HA! Old thread. Awesome though. I got a custom gauge overlay and was trying to figure out where to get red needle. Then I saw your post about them being painted. I am simply going to sand and repaint. Thanks!
