Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
I'm going to start working on balancing my car over the winter so any weight I can take off the front would be great... those fiberglass IROC style hoods that still use the stock hinges would be great.

Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
But, even with a 1 piece front end, you'd hafta build the front suspension and radiator wall, to get the benefits of reaching everything. The way the "frame" is just welded/stamped sheet metal, you aren't going to see the benefits, besides weight reduction.

I would like to see a reproduction 91-92 formula bumper. Orig. sell for BIG bucks, if you can find one...hint hint. I would be very interested in something like that. Just mold 1 so we could use the grills and related hardware.

Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
i wanna see a kit for that front "clamshell" corvette style hood. Thats so awsome. Why can't it just be made so that it lifts the front quarter panels around the frame. We dont actually need to make a tubular frame. I just like the idea of that huge front flipping hood. So sweet.
Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
So, I just read through this whole thread and I see that no one made this observation. The white car, while it is custom, is pretty low to the ground on the front end, which everyone pretty much agreed would be an issue with a clamshell style hood. What no one mentioned was that there is NO ENGINE in the bay. Wouldn't adding the engine lower the car even more, thus making it almost impossible to completely open the clamshell hood? It's an observation, but am I wrong here?
I know there was talk about OEM fiberglass parts, and someone mentioned the doors. If there were finerglass doors, would this reduce the "Chevy Sag"? If the door was lighter, would the sag either be a non-issue or would it just delay the inevitable? Could the door be built where the hinge hooked into a long bar that ran the length of the door, and gave it more stability and less possiblity of sag?
Just to throw this out there (and I may be off topic) but has anyone looked into the door hinges on the new Mercedes C-Class? They claim that the door can support a 200 lb. man hanging on the door. has anyone looked into possibly reverse engineering this to create a kit for the F-body that would eliminate the sag? Possibly combining it with a fiberglass door?
I mean, we all have been complaining about the design flaws on these cars, and only some of them have been addressed by aftermarket parts. Why not use your fiberglassing talents to make replacement parts for those of us who drive these on a regular basis and not on the racetrack, and once you've made money doing that, then go for the crazy clamshells, and notchbacks, and whatever else you want.
Basically, let the needs of the masses pay for the wants.
OK, that may have been to Yoda-ish, but you get the idea.
Is this idea totally crazy? Another thought is, we've all seen the "Camaro concept" that looks like it has a 'Bird rear end...why not make those quarter panels in fiberglass and make a conversion kit for the rear end too?
I guess what I'm really saying here is "I'll buy fiberglass doors that take all the standard hardware from the original door".

VFN may make a complete nose, but it's extended 2 inches and has some sort of ground fx. I was talking about a stock replacement formula bumper.

Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
Colt.If you want to make a small fortune, make the header/visor trim pieces for convertibles. Almost every one needs replaced and no one makes them.. The second would be a bolton fiberglass trunk lid for verts, maybe with dif spoiler options. I got a couple other ideas,if interested pm me.
Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
Thanks emory.
I'm not trying to be a genius or anything (and trust me I'm not) but I would like something to replace my 200 lb door to keep it from rusting and sagging, and I'm sure there are others wo are searching for the same (and I mean Camaro owners, I've seen the 'Bird parts...). I'd like my car to be custom, but it needs to work as a car first, and look b*tchin' second.
Trust me, if I could make them, I would.
Just my two cents and all. To be honest, I'm not sure Colt is even reading this forum anymore...I think he left it a while back... but anywho...

Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
Id love to see a functional shaker hood system made for a camaro. one that you could incorporate the k&n xtreme air filter. The hood would be easy. just a stock hood with a hole cut in it. the intake part would have to be adjustble to fit different size intakes.

Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
Thanks i havent seen one yet. I dont think anyone mass produces them yet tho. Third gens really dont have a lot of hood choices. 5 or 6. I have the ram air, but would sell it in a heartbeat if i could get a functional shaker that would give me the clearance. Not to mention they just plain look cool when the motor is thumpin

I've seen hoods cut for the hole, but the shaker attached to the bottom of the hood, not actually on a carb before.

Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
fiberglass door are a BIG no no. There not D.O.T. aproved and your dead if you get T-boned
now Id love a one peace front clip if it was to oem specs, All the ones out now are over sized. I want one that simply bolts into the stock location, still looks stock, and all my stuff, like the headlights are a direct bolt in.

Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
i wouldn't mind it being a LITTLE bit off, cause it would be obvious no matter what, and i'd probably customize it anyway. i have no interest in any flip up arrangement though.

Yep.
The OEM pieces had a steel, anti-crash, inner structure, unlike the aftermarket doors, that are simply fiberglass and hollow.

i was thinking of getting one of the figerglass front ends. dont have to worry about rust.
but i would stick with the hoods. and maybe afew other little things.
and you never know. maybe you might come up with another awesome idea for are cars

Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
my mom had a 47 packard that had the coolest hood. it had a lever under each side of the dash. pull either one, and the hood opened from that side. pull both, and the whole hood just came off.
Re: 1 piece fiberglass front end kits
I Have the vfn front end....so far its just sitting on the car. Its the second fiberglass front end on my car. The first was very oem but I didnt like the design it had no ground effects and looked like a berlinetta. the second is the VFN. looks cooler but very difficult to mount.

where did you get the OEM front clip? how long ago did you purchase it, do you still have it? can't you just glue the GFX on?
