the bump or hill in the back of the car.

To start of i have an 88 camaro. Ok. well im not quite sure how to explain this question. I just want to know what is the hill or bump in the back of the car right behind the back seats. I was just always curious to find out what is really in it. Is something important in it because i was looking to make a whole in the middle of it so i can drop in a box for my subwoofers I have, being that there is not much room around the back. I would just like to know if anyone can tell me. Thanks a lot!

Yep! And you only have about half an inch clearance between the bottom of the carpet and the tank itself. Don't recommend doing any drilling or cutting back there.....

i dont want to be rude but if you had to ask that, plz stop screwing with the car, before someone gets hurt, heh
i can understand maybe being curious as to how much space there is under there, but even thinking you would have the space to drop a subwoofer in there, worries me.. where did you think the axle and gas tank went?

Best place for subs is the rear of the car in the luggage well. Make a mounting board that will fit in the area and seal up, make it look factory pretty easy with some carpet. Snap a picture of mine later.

I'm with DR1 on this issue. Not to be an *** or anything but that goes past car knowledge into the realm of common sense. Might want to let a professional do the work on your car. LoL this guy reminds me of the guy on a honda board who tapped a nitrous line into his valve cover.

This is my cover, not a high powered deal but puts out a solid bass that carries over the road/exhaust noise.

And the box itself, using a dual voice coil 10 inch low buck speaker with a four channel amp bridged into two. Sealed box and rubber gasket to seal to upper cover, keeps out some road noise from the luggage well too. Good sound without advertising to the local thieves.

i have a cover that i made that fits flush with the rest of the trunk area right behind the seats....kinda like the cover that the trans ams come with, but mines cut out for 2 12" subs. what's even better is that there is plenty of room under them for crap and it doesn't mess up the sound, for my car anyways.

Might add a brake pedal and ejection seat on the passenger side too. LOL

Flaming this guy is only telling him to stop asking questions, and the board is here for people to ask questions. I don't know about you, but if I got flamed on my first post, I wouldn't come back.

xtremebiker - I think the lesson here is to see if you can figure it out for yourself before asking. A quick look under the car would have confirmed that it was 'important.'

I agree. At least he asked BEFORE he drilled. How many posts have we read where someone drilled and installed something there without finding out what was below it? He asked, got it answered. The ridiculing can stop now.

I found the question to be quite funny, either way, I did not flame him
Im incredibly happy he asked first, and hope he comes back to ask many more questions
And if i were him id come back to ask more questions, Id be more worried if noone found my question a little silly, after the fact...
(it was in the realm of common sense, and not automotive knowledge, like the last guy said)

Thanks

I would like to say I did it all, but I actually had it done for me

My old system was stolen, and insurance paid to get a new one installed.

I used to be really in to audio, and have done a few installs, and I watched them do alot of the work to see how this stuff was done.

I'm not sure what you mean by platic trim, unless you mean the blue part that hides almost everything? That is actualy vinyl, strecthed over (what's that stuff called? Peg board but with out the holes???) It's just cut to shape, and the vinyl is glued to it (pretty easy

The sub box is all fiberglass, which give you more air space for the subs, and makes the box alot lighter (great for when a break light goes out

Then the amp rack is covered with a smoked piece of plexi glass.

This system is pretty old now, I've had it for about 5 years or so.

For reference, its not IMPOSSIBLE to drill that area where the gas tank lies, just not recommended. I ended up drilling there to keep my amp in place (knowledgable about clearance). Under the carpet, you'll find ridges in the metal which gives you about a quarter of an inch worth of sideways drilling space. Just be careful, that's all. **or drop the tank - but thats a pain in the *** for these cars**
